When you have a chance to give yourself sole possession for the B1G title before the stretch run and you choke to an absolutely pathetic Penn State team. Should we be surprised? Nope

How many times has Iowa Basketball had a lackluster loss or losses like this during the season? How many times have we lost on the road to terrible Penn State teams?

Face it folks, this team is not going to win the B1G championship. There is no realistic path now with a crap loss like this. At this rate we can kiss a #1 seed goodbye for sure, probably a #2 seed and probably playing in Des Moines.

Credit to Penn State, they probably saved Chambers job tonight and when they are sitting at home in March then they can look back and cherish that at least they cost Iowa a B1G title.

Well, this team has a week off to get their shit together. I want to say this team is just tired, but they won't have that excuse for the next game. Have to figure things out at the free throw line.
 
It's disappointing. And a poignant reminder why you shouldn't place your mood, mental health, and emotional stability on the outcome of a basketball game. Iowa players are human but it doesn't seem like they care about finishing the season strong.

They don't care about finishing the season strong!? LOL. These kids have a ton invested, and to say they don't care is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard.

Yep, and that's the most alarming thing. They have so much experience and have been through the B1G grind before. It's really hard not to believe that this team isn't going to fold like a cheap tent like they did 2 years ago. If this was one game, you could chalk it up to "sh@t happens." But these lackluster performances are starting to happen with regularity. And right now this team looks like they have no heart and that is the most disappointing part of all this.

Given the lack of energy and the lack of passion evidenced on the court the last couple games, yes, that would indicate apathy. Hence why I said "it doesn't seem." As in the evidence is not reflected in how they are playing right now.

Learn reading comprehension skills, remove head from sphincter, then criticize, idiot.

Yes, it's been 4 straight lack luster, avg @ best performances. Maybe that's what we are.
 
Well their energy and intensity level in road games would indicate they at the very least don't get it. You can't show up ho hum against anyone and we've been doing it pretty routinely lately. The effort against Indiana was awful. The effort against Illinois was not where it needed to be. The effort against Maryland was not where it needed to be. And tonight? What a joke. 4 seniors and a junior should not go into that shit hole with a conference title on the line and piss down their leg like they did. i agree with others. Iowa lost the conference title to Maryland tonight and they should be absolutely embarrassed. They got embarrassed at Indiana and talked about how they were gonna come out pissed off and the reality is all they've done is fart into the wind since. Very very very disappointing effort from the head coach all the way down.

They look tired. The week off will do them some good. I think they win out. It's a good time to refocus and refuel.

Step away from the keyboard. At Penn St has claimed a lot better teams than our Hawks. Week off comes at good time. This team has been fading for the better part of 3 weeks

Oh maybe you watched a different game than all the rest of us?!?! Just no sense of urgency! They have taken on their team leader Uthoff's non-aggressive personality!!! I see them finishing as a 5-6 seed now!! In the east!!

we really need a point guard that can make layups and free throws. If the coach thinks Williams is going to be good enough to lead this team next year he would be getting some playing time this year.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but Wisconsin would DESTROY PSU right now. And the Hawks better get their crap together or they will get rolled at home to Wisconsin next week.

Great comment...my son and I have been saying that always we need a point guard that can MAKE FREE THROWS IN THE CLUTCH!!!

It seems Iowa missed half their free throws in the final 5 minutes or so. Mike only shot 2 ft all game. Why keep bashing mike when others are also to blame for this loss?!?

Basketball is a game of runs and mometum. Any good team goes through this. ANY. We have lost 3 in the Big Ten. Let these Seniors show how good they are moving forward. We still control our destiny.

I hope I'm right to...every night they seem to be a little more "off". Starters have been slow to start and bench has been absent. I think a week and then Wisc in Iowa will make a world of difference.

Is PSU not allowed to make free throws? We Iowa fans are complaining that the Hawks CAN'T make free throws and turn around and complain that another team IS making their's! (?)
 
I can't remember what famous coach said "The team I have today is not the same team I had yesterday or the same team I'll have tomorrow". Iowa had a bad game and Penn St. had a good game, the best team doesn't always win on a given night. I agree with CAhawki in that this team needs a break to regroup.

Someone said they didn't play well and I said they must have made 90% of ft when it counted most....to give them credit for handling their business.
How is that complaining?

Woody got victimized by a mediocre--at best--center tonight. I won't question their effort because winning means a lot more to them than it ever could to us, but they are totally out of sorts right now. It might be rubber legs or just chemistry, but the swagger is gone, and if something at least resembling that isn't found, then we may not win again this season.
