College Basketball Crown or NIT still possible?

No, the auto bids for The Crown. They have to go. There are two auto bids from the Big Ten, Big 12, and Big East. The other ten spots are at-large. From what I've found since the conferences signed an agreement with Fox, the auto bids have to go. They can't opt out.

I’ve read that it has been indicated that any team from the Big East, Big 12, and B1G selected to play in the CBC are required to play. Not just the two AQs. I’m not sure what the protocol would be if there are coaching changes and/or mass transfers?

Or does it mean, if they’re selected for both the CBC and NIT, they can’t choose to play in the NIT?

What happens if half there team enters the portal? Im sure there is a contract but lets say Nebraska has 5 portal entries and the 2 good Seniors decide its time to get ready for the draft. I think I heard they have to have a mininum of 7 Scholarship players.

I believe the “requirement” is, if you’re selected and you’re going to play in postseason basketball, you’re playing in the CBC, not the NIT.

I doubt the conferences would go for a mandatory participation in a second tier tournament.

Here's hoping Iowa can beat OSU tonight, then upset Illinois tomorrow night, and a close loss to Maryland on Friday night.

Really want the Hawks to get a 1-seed in the Crown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't imagine Iowa would accept a Crown invite. They will have a new head coach and maybe 4 players left on the roster by the time that tourney tips off.
They'll have the same head coach.
Unfortunately there'll be no change.
Good news! Great seats will be available for mbb next year for cheap.

Fran has a very good recruiting class, including a near 5 star guy, no way he gets fired
He had the Murray brothers and Luka and in the case of the Murray brothers that ended with a loss to Richmond in the tournament. Against the best competition Fran was not stellar. His win percentage overall is 59%....in the Big Ten it is 50.3%. Throw in the NCAA games he is right at 50% and if they lose to Illinois he will be under 500 in conference and tournament play. (I did not factor in BTT play....just regular season...too lazy to look it up by year :)
So Fran feasted off of the non conference schedule except for ISU who Fran has a 6-9 record against.

NOTHING will change this if he stays. Nothing. You either want to continue the current trajectory with Fran, or get someone that you think can change the course for the better.

Again, the Murray brothers were 0-8 from 3PT line against Richmond, so who are we laying the blame for that game? Fran has his failures, but to tout how great the Murrays were and then excuse their part in that loss is a little disingenuous.

That would be the definition of insane to hold up the coaching change so Fran can coach out the NIT or CROWN. I'm going to watch the BTT game, but NIT or CROWN doesn't excite me. Reminds me of last years closeout loss to UTAH in NIT....one last garbage game.
We need some new blood.
nobody cares about the NIT or CROWN. It just means your program is going the WRONG direction.

LOL. Is that because of the splendid job he's done when he's had the B1G/National POY and high NBA draft picks on his squad?
That in both cases entered the program as recruits with next to no other offers that were belittled by assholes here on this board??...you mean those guys??

This is what I was wondering about as well.

I'm with Hassel ... if you are going to make the move, you make it. Fran can finish out the season, or you can play on with an interim, but you can't delay the coaching search while other jobs start to fill.
Might be a little leverage they could give fran the option of finishing the season if he agrees to a negotiated buyout. Otherwise move on with an interim coach.

None of those guys are close to Joshua Lewis recruiting rankings, highest ever….ever…

Garza made himself POY w/ tremendous work effort
I’m not saying Fran is a good coach, he’s below avg for sure

Today! Going on right now! Get excited!! :)

Cringe-worthy. I’m all about more basketball, but play this crap tourney when the NIT, CBI and first 2 rounds of the NCAA’s is going on when fans are still half-way engaged with their mediocre teams. Absolutely nobody cares about anything but the Final Four today. This is worse than the Boise Bowl between Nevada and Ball State being played on Jan 10th.

Filler material for the junkies.

When Iowa had a chance to go I was a little intriged but I will not watch. Maybe watch the NIT tomorrow and Thursday with all Mid-Majors playing but not a sub .500 team 3 weeks after the regular season is over with.

The take away that I have is that there may be good players (Didn't say really good) that play for bad teams. The level of competition is not good, but it may allow for those players to stand out and show their skill level. I see these games as a showcase for the better players to show their skills to other teams perhaps, as well as their coaches. You can say "Playing for pride" or whatever any euphemism you can come up with I suppose. It's probably difficult to even say that good players can showcase due to lesser competition. You can also contend that the competition is level because the teams are equally as bad or mediocre. That's all I can come up with. Anybody else got anything? I'm fishing LOL.
