The Big Ten Tournament Doesn't Matter

As far as success in in the NCAA tournament goes, since the year 2000 four Big Ten Tournament Champs have reached the Final Four, while eight non tournament champions have also reached the Final Four. The Big Ten Tournament, as well as all other major conference tournaments, are staged media events created to bring major television dollars to the respective conferences. That is their only importance. That is the reason they were instituted. They are relevant only to the few teams who earn a NCAA bid by winning their conference tournaments, bids that they would not have otherwise received, but they are not predictive of NCAA success.
