Why would you think I wanted it to be arbitrary? That's the operative word there.

You might be right, I took it to mean that the practice itself was banned.

However in practice it would not work very well. The only stateless places you could send someone is space, international waters and Antarctica. All of those are the same as a death sentence. And it would be in most instances very hard to find a country willing to take your criminals off your hands.

Unions work if you want a vibrant economy, a growing middle class, parents who can raise their own kids and deliver a quality life from the fruits of their own labor free from handouts and welfare programs. Every problem we have would be better if people just started respecting work more and didn't try to steal $2 from their long time worker and call it fair.

Sorry. The gap doesn't seem to go the other way. When women make more, the studies have concluded that the gap is because of lifestyle choices like more education.

If we read it your way, that would mean that arrest and detention aren't allowed at all either. I imagine we agree that's not the case. IMO the statement is describing the arbitrary nature of the arrest, detention or exile.

And while the comment is mainly intended to be understood as a quip in response to Kiting's suggestion that we send feminists to Saudi Arabia, I'm not sure your objections couldn't be overcome in a number of ways. We might just drop them off in some foreign land with or without that nation's permission and let the chips fall. Maybe we use some US controlled territory overseas as a penal colony. Maybe you put the onus on the exiled to find a place or go to jail. If we wanted to explore exile as an alternative to jail, I'm sure we could find an option that is more workable than the moon.
