The Bull back in action

I agree with just about everything everyone here is saying. HWC doesn't appear to have the deep pockets they did in the '80s. That's a reality, not an excuse, but it's also their biggest problem to solve if they want to stay relevant on the international scene--and even on the collegiate scene, as top recruits have aspirations beyond NCAAs. We all want HWC and Iowa Wrestling to succeed. But other than making our monthly donations, not much else we can do. As Gobblin would say, griping doesn't make anyone aware of anything they're not already aware of.
This is an all time post from you Tarp… Hang it in the Louvre.

Also keep in mind that some of these guys that are paid by the hwc to stick around are doing so mainly to provide additional training partners for the current Iowa team members and aren't really focused on their own personal freco career at this point. Doesnt mean they won't eventually decide to go all in. That's a pretty important role that they play in Iowas overall success. But yes, it would be nice to have more guys actually competing and brining more notoriety to the club. Ideally, it would be nice to have more guys helping out our current team roster while training to make world teams and I am sure that is the overall goal.

This is a huge problem. It really is what Gilman said about the HWC being a "jobs program." The club is just not a priority to Tom. And we'd better all get comfortable with that.

i really hope this isn't true because it's a dereliction of duty on tom's part. simply can't expect to compete without it. ncaa champs win team titles and the best kids want to compete on the world stage.

It IS true. It HAS to be true. Tom said it.

(just going with the arguments as posed to me when I said that Tom didn't have proof that persons are paid to badmouth Iowa)

apparently marinelli asked for more money after agreeing and pulled out when they said no.

sometimes it feels like this program is addicted to bad press lol
Nah. 95% of the time it’s not anyone on the teams fault. It’s just that 3 of the biggest platforms on twitter have a dislike of Iowa ranging from deranged to a regular hater. Then when those 3(mostly 2 of them) get backlash from Iowa fans they just block them and then it seems like no one is seeing both sides.

yeah and Iowa doesn't tend to ever explain anything so the people you're referencing can paint the picture however they want and get away with it

Yeah sometimes I wish Tom or someone on the team would respond, but in some scenarios I realize that it’s only gonna give the haters what they want. It’s annoying but it’s better that the trolls wear themselves out and Iowa just do their best to ignore it. I never agreed with Kirks no social media rule, but now I see where he was coming from. Especially in the case of Iowa wrestlers.

Someone who competes. Because right now if someone is watching the WTT they arent seeing HWC. They are seeing NLWC, Spartan RTC, Cliff Keen, Ohio RTC. If I wasnt a die hard Hawkeye fan, and I had a kid who had Olympic aspirations, HWC would be a harder sell because of that.

This has been a problem for awhile now, and this is just a continuation of that problem.
Fact!

Why do you think marinelli asked for more $? Genuine question. I have a guess.

no idea. don't really care honestly. just seems silly to take a match in a "street league" against a guy who doesn't even wrestle anymore and then pull out because you're not getting paid enough. what's the point?

i don't think you can include stalemates as a hater. zach's had tom on for long interviews multiple times. he's a cyclone fan, but seems like a good dude who just wants to put on a show for fans.

The point is clearly the money. In boxing or mma the contract is usually on hold because the “better” draw is asking for more guaranteed money. I don’t think this is much different especially considering what you said. Marinelli figured the money wasn’t fair. Is he right? Hell if I know. I agree if he took the match and then backed out that it isn’t right but who really knows all the p’s and q’s.

Anybody who knows Alex knows there's absolutely no shot he agreed to a match and then backed out after already agreeing because he wanted more money.

Plus, we already know he doesn't need the money since Iowa is paying Moriah so much under the table right? 😅

Who are the Big 3?

Yeah Iowa had zero guys compete at U23 WTTs

Pretty ugly, our two coaches have the pedegree in international wrestling. Both Terry and Tom are more accomplished than Cale.
What's the issue?? Whatever it is, it's a real one. I don't have the answer.
Money? Charisma, coaching style?
Opinions from those that have more insight than me, I'd like to know the thoughts on this.
