Questions that need addressed-

Do the Hawkeye Four stay on scholarship?
How long of suspension for the other two?
Can the Hawks get transfers in from those weights?
Are there any more names?
Can and will current Hawks transfer out?
Is it time for a leadership change - Coaches, AD, school president?

Were those 4 guys on Wrestling 9.9 scholarship already? If so they probably lose some?
Probably not through the post season so somewhat irrelavent right?
Probably not they already did make those moves right
Probably not
of course why not
I think the AD is already gone. Beyond that I don't think they will or should be fired. Probably increased supervision from the ADs office.

Why would they transfer out? I would think that they lose the year of eligibility no matter what school they are at.

I heard they are banned for life from NCAA, competing and coaching. They do have appeals, but betting on your own school( on any sport) is a giant no-no.

Bet on their own school or bet on their own team? Betting on our own wrestling team seems like it would be way worse than betting on Iowa women's basketball. Either way, most everyone knew that gambling on college sports is a big non-no for athletes.

That’s the same as Noah Shannon and he only got a year.

But it’s the last year for a few of them. Wouldn’t be surprised if they just leave the university if they lose the appeal.

I’m not 100%, but I think they usually keep their scholarship if they want.

I would be shocked if their scholys were not revoked immediately, pending the appeals. I suspect there is a moral clause tied to them in writing. That side I found this on the Web

"The NCAA allows scholarships to be cancelled if athletes commit a felony, violate a team rule, withdraw from a team, among other reasons outlined in Bylaw 15.3.4 of the Division 1 Manual. If a one-year scholarship contract is discontinued in the offseason, that isn’t technically a cancellation, per NCAA guidelines. Rather, that’s considered a nonrenewal."

The day after what? I’ve seen nothing announced.

Regardless, no one’s scholarship will be revoked for this semester at least. Everyone will be appealing and school has already started.

An athlete can transfer our but their suspension will follow them, making it a much less attractive option.

And finally, the last line…lmao. A university president fired because a handful of athletes were busted for doing what college kids do everywhere? Please. And we LITERALLY replaced our AD 3 weeks ago. 😂

If our guys are going to get punished for this, every states DCI better do an investigation and provide their findings to the NCAA. It can't just be a "thing" in the state of Iowa.
Very doubtful that anything close to this ever happens. Prosecutorial discretion prevails for largely victimless crimes of low monetary significance.

Casinos have there own infrastructure to catch and ban cheaters. It's a waste of public infrastructure, time, and money for public officials to act as the investigative and enforcement agent for legalized gambling.

A states gambling laws should include requirements for adequate self-policing. I would be surprised to learn that many states have an equivalent to Iowa's DCI regarding their legalized gambling.

A quick search indicates only 23 states have legal organized sports books (according to DraftKings site).

I don't think Iowa gets to tell other states dci's what they need to investigate. But if we did, I'm sure they would jump right on it.
Yeah, I'm not saying they would.
My personal opinion, it should be handled the same way. with the same scrutiny for all D1 athletics across the country.

Oh, but sadly, it sure can be just an "Iowa" thing. You need significant "suspicion" of illegal activity before you pool the necessary resources and time to do such a lenghty investigation. Remember, they weren't investigating NCAA violations...

I'm suspicious that college kids like to bet sports. I was one. I had one. I used the same bookies. 😉

The problem is in many states they are old enough to legally gamble. So it would take more than evidence they bet. It would take evidence of collusion on bets within their sport or other sports from the same school or using illegal avenues to place bets, such as your “bookie”. Even then, you would still need there to be a significant money trail to make it a big enough crime to commit that much time and energy…

I know MSU. it just sucks for Iowa. It's like getting a ticket for going 80 on I 94 into Chicago or getting a public intox in Panama on spring break.

it is what it is. But it's not an isolated crime.

I hear ya. It’s just one of those many examples of what most grandparents tell you when you are rather young. Life isn’t fair. There are times you will benefit more from it than others and there are times you won’t. This is one of those “won’t” times for Iowa…

Grandmas also advise Jack and Jill to “keep your nose clean” and follow the rules.

You can’t complain that life isn’t fair when you intentionally break well established rules. Well, you can complain but won’t get much sympathy from me.

Change do you want to blame coaches for athletic directors for decision kids make outside the wrestling room this has been preach to athletes for years, not to gamble on college sports. This has nothing to do with the coaches.

They are not banned for life that’s ridiculous
Yea it is just a ridiculous idea isn’t it.

They could face a lifetime ban from NCAA participation, per the new rules.

“Student-athletes who engage in activities to influence the outcomes of their own games or knowingly provide information to individuals involved in sports betting activities will potentially face permanent loss of collegiate eligibility in all sports,” the new rule reads. “This would also apply to student-athletes who wager on their own games or on other sports at their own schools.

Not that any such options would be necessarily attractive, let alone a replacement for wrestling for the hawks, but a JUCO coach (different sport, not wrestling) told me that NJCAA doesn't have gambling regulations and his players were free to bet as they wish. Don't know if they would honor a NCAA ban or not.

Also heard rumors Hunter Dekkers was going to end up at Dordt, but none of that seems to have materialized, and no idea about the NAIA rules.

I have heard talk that Dekkers is going to end up at Morningside, also NAIA, but as far as I know that has not happened either.

The Day After, decent movie. I know it scared the schit out of me as a kid. Great role for Steve Guttenberg before his run in the Police Academy series

I live 20 minutes from Morningside. It's casino alley over here. There's a casino in my town, a Hard Rock in Sioux City. There's probably fifteen to twenty casinos within a two hour drive from Omaha to Sioux City to Sioux Falls. There's also about four more being built I think in Lincoln, Omaha, and South Sioux City and other places. So yeah there's that.

Yep, that movie scared the SH*T out of me watching those ICBM's taking off next to the football stadium and the scene where Jason Robards is in his car on the freeway trying to get to his family and an ICBM detonates nearby.

Sadly it's all still very relevant and the same thing can happen any day now given all the crap going on in the world. The full movie can be found for free on YouTube.
