Interior Department moves toward federal renaming of Denali and Gulf of Mexico

Imagine the pressure that will be exerted on corporations. Travel and hospitality industry companies will be coerced into using the MAGA name. Some MAGA will get all butthurt if their pilot from Miami to Jamaica says they have reached their cruising altitude over the GoM, they'll go viral, and Trump will threaten to shut American Airlines down.
Crazy? Not anymore.

I'm largely indifferent.
Then if you're indifferent why don't you have any sympathy for Native Alaskans who oppose this? Why do you think Trump wants to do this (no one asked him to do it). Additionally, please share your thoughts on why it's important to Trump to have the Gulf of Mexico renamed the Gulf of America when America shares only 38% of its coast line? You enjoy the nanny nanny boo boo, look what I can do antics, but you've yet to articulate why this is good for America and Americans.

Mullet Toss is gonna be big fun this year. Hopefully the libtards will boycott.

It was forever name Denali. This is a direct and deliberate insult to native Alaskans, and a direct appeal to white nationalists. It’s petty and mean spirited.
partially agree. i'm not sure trump's doing it to be petty and mean spirited or to insult native alaskans. denali and gulf renaming along with the birthright eo (which likely won't become law) are easy but visible accomplishments to indeed satisfy the white nationalist contingent but the real purpose i think is to generate headroom to pull off more meaningful moves that (without the crumbs of these smaller "wins") would piss off the same white nationalists. i could be wrong but we'll see what trump's got up his sleeve

Well, it’s “tame” to the extent that if Trump spends the next four years on petty stuff like this it’s kind of a best case scenario. But it is stupid AF and pandering to the most base nature of the dumbest of all Americans.

You should at least be able to admit that.
This is where I am. I think it is silly and a waste of time and resources, and pandering to the segment of his supporters who I think are morons and worse. And, the more of these things which focus his energy are pawns on the board I am willing to let go. The problem is that he's apparently not just coming for pawns, he's coming for all of the pieces.

Here's where I fear shit like this is going.

Trump, DC
Trump City, NY
The Trump Monument
Trump High Schools in every city with multiple districts
Ford class aircraft carrier USS Trump

Don't laugh when something like this happens. Hell, I'd bet my paycheck on it.

I'm sure the USS Trump will happen. Probably some spacecraft called the ISS Trump too.

The man has an ego that has no limit. I honestly don't believe he gives a shit about governing at all - he's leaving that to all the cabinet used car salesmen that are propping him up (and rubber stamping anything the religious right and GOP in Congress wants).

This is a revenge tour for him, his legacy, and (re) writing history by stamping himself over every square inch of this country he can for all time to see.

Better than no thoughts.

If it wasn't so damaging to our country, watching y'all be pawns would be amusing. Trump knows his base and knows how to bait the hook.

How are “Mt. McKinley” and “Gulf of America” damaging the country? Even better, how was America “saved” by changing the name of Mt. McKinley to “Pasquale”, or whatever TF the named it. 🙄

Yep. I just hope his cronies can hold in their wad of tributes until after he's kicked the bucket.

I could imagine a statue of Boebert giving him a bj in front of the Lincoln Memorial.

I'm talking about renaming the Washington Monument. Renaming Yellowstone or Yosemite. About renaming New York City or Washington DC. About ordering the Treasury to put his picture on all money.

I honestly don't know if he can actually EO this kind of stuff, but something tells me if he can order changing a mountain or gulf's name, he can order this type of stuff too.

THAT is what scares me.

Conversely, how does either - especially unilaterally renaming the Gulf, benefit the USA?

And of course America wasn't "saved" by recognizing Denali as the official name of that mountain instead of after McKinley, who never even set foot in Alaska.

Nobody in Alaska wanted it renamed, nor was there any significant push from anyone else to do so.

That won't happen. If it does it will be corrected by the next Dem administration.

By the time February was through in 2021, the Dems had already passed the American Recovery act expanding stimulus and child tax credits. It passed the Senate in early March and signed.

Republicans are working on changing constitutional amendments (that have a snowballs chance in hell) and this. I couldn’t be happier. I can’t remember the left freaking out as little as it has following this loss. 2 years of this is no problem.

Don't miss the forest for the trees here. Mount McKinley is pretty straightforward: it was originally named Mount Denali for centuries, then renamed to McKinley in 1917 after a president who had no connection to the mountain, nor had he ever seen it. For years, Native Americans (and us Alaskan residents) wanted it changed back to Denali, but it wasn't until a Republican senator,Lisa Murkowski, pushed for the change that it was officially renamed in 2015.

For 10 years, there was no major uproar or further discussion about it. Then, Trump took office and, despite Alaska being a red state that voted for him, decided out of nowhere to change it back to McKinley. The question is: why? No one on "team red" has answered that. It's pretty clear that it’s out of spite.

If you can’t see how a president acting out of spite from the Oval Office can be damaging, there’s really no point in me trying to explain further. And before you try to deflect with "liberal tears" nonsense, let me clarify: you're talking to a conservative who's never voted for a Democratic president.
