Bear with me here. The 2001/2 season obviously was one of the most memorable in Iowa football history. But we talked it in the Orange Bowl. The staff said after they made done mistakes and had to learn a lot of things with guys going to award shows and trying to keep grounded and prepare for USC, and we got hoodwinked in that game. I personally believe if we'd played them in November the way we were playing it would've been a very different game. Anyways, u think the staff learned and when we made the return in 2009 as well as in several bowls over subsequent years after that 01 season, the staff grew and applied what they learned and we saw a lot more success. I think this staff and Kirk in particular are good at learning from mistakes.
We've been down this undefeated path before in 2009. So this is not uncharted waters for us. I think the staff learned some lessons from that season as well that can be applied to this team and this year, and it gives me a lot of confidence and optimism that this group can keep this going.
I would love to be a part of the program right now and hear the message behind closed doors and watch how this staff is handling all of this. You can't shelter kids from the publicity and rhetoric. They're hearing everyone talk about them. Being part of the conversation is obviously huge and a ton of four the fans. Hopefully the conversation stays that we aren't good enough and no one is buying in so we keep that edge. I think this week is the week. This is the toughest test left on the schedule. I really hope we come out with a pissed off attitude, particularly on the lines and especially after how sloppy the 2nd half was last Saturday with line play, and that we come out and make a statement Saturday.
