The federal government is the largest employer in the United States....

As part of the deal, Amazon would absorb the USPS and all their facilities and trucks, as well as any postal workers who wanted to come along for the ride.

Oh, and the union would go away, too.

Man, I can just smell the efficiencies here.....
I’m sure you can. Can you smell the deaths along with it? Amazon required their drivers to drive during tornadoes. Hurricanes. Are they going to require their drivers to deliver during flash floods? Massive fires?

Think about how wrong that is.

Over two million federal workers in 2024. And this is just civilian workers. If uniformed military members were included it would be even worse.

Walmart is #2 with 1.6 million workers nationwide. Amazon follows with 1.1 million U.S. employees, more than double UPS which is the third largest private employer (443,000 employees).

Walt Disney World is the largest single-site employer in the U.S. with 80,000 cast members.
Biden put disabled Vets to work providing services to the Government. Trump just fired their asses. Yay team red. Suckers and losers keep losing.

Because you are paying for Amazon prime.

Your taxes are paying for the USPS.

Tax payer dollars are not used to fund USPS.

Do my tax dollars pay for the Postal Service?

Tax Dollars USPS

No, the Postal Service is generally self-funded. This means that no tax dollars are used to keep the lights on at its many facilities across the country. The Postal Service, instead, relies on the revenue it generates from the sale of stamps, products, and services to fund its operations.

There are plenty of things on Amazon that have free shipping even if you don't have Prime.

But that's really not the point. With the mail, you pay to ship it, not receive it. Amazon could easily have a reverse Prime for people like Joel who want to send lots of letters. No stamps required.

They could. Easily.

You have faith that Bezos is going to make a decision that doesn’t make him money?

So no one “pays”for it? Someone “pays for it….the customers ultimately pays for it …..but it ain’t free!

Because the cost of shipping is built into an inflated product price.

And Amazon isn’t going to deliver a letter in 2-3 days from Montana to Iowa for 73 cents that the sender will pay.

Good grief.

The USPS self finances? They are a service. To us all. They don’t turn any profit.

Didn’t say they turn a profit…but for the most part they are the one government agency that pays its own way. Yes I know from time to time the government bails them out..not much different than other companies unfortunately.

Not sure how much of a service they provide these days. They deliver stuff to one box that goes directly into another container that we pay someone else, of our own pocket, to take away.

But if do not believe me and love the post office so much, I would assume you believe them.

“But, beginning in the 1970s, the Postal Service largely stopped receiving any taxpayer money. Postal operations are instead funded by sales to you, the postal customer. Now it depends almost entirely on sales to keep the lights on.”

They're going there anyway. Any extra revenue without extra cost is a good thing.
So you’re fine paying more for private industry, imposing absolute unrelenting standards upon their employees. In the form of “deliver this in a hurricane or you’re fired” as opposed to any sort of humane standard.

Yeah. We have to agree to disagree.

Dude. It’s not about any belief.

It’s about knowing that when my mom sends me a card, or anything. All she has to pay is postage. And likewise.

Because except for Joel, no one sends letters anymore.

I normally accidentally throw letters and cards away. There is 20 different things in that box, everyday, that I just grab and turn around and drop in the the next container I come to.

Unless I am expecting something like one if the car registrations…I got better things to do than sort through all that crap.

President Musk has to cut expenses to fund the tax cuts that Trump is promising for wealthy Mericans.
Republican voters won't be able to blame the Dems in a year when the shit hits the fan.

No they’re not. Amazon delivers from 100 or so warehouses to customers. There isn’t a warehouse in Big Sky or Algona, so Amazon would have to add 2 trips - and additional costs - to pick up and deliver that letter to a warehouse, if not two, and then that customer.

Good grief.

You missed the post where Trad said Jeff Bezos would aquire all the post offices, All the sorting facilities and all the vehicles and possibly keep any postal employees that wanted to make the move to Amazon mail, I’m sure as generous as Jeff is he would also pick up all the healthcare coverage and honor all the pensions.

Soooo…let me get this straight…you think it’s “wrong” that the entire federal govt of the United States employs fewer than half a million more workers than Walmart. Are you stupid or something?

Looks like DOGE needs to work with Walmart. No way do they need that many workers.

You realize that is only an average of 307 employees per store.

And out of that number is also all the non store workers …buyers, etc….and with that same number of people also run the second largest online store in the country.

The US government has 341,352,891 customers.
