The Great Wall of Trump

Coming from you, I'm a bit surprised. First, and simplest, the government doing it is "right" because we say it is right. More complex, someone simply coming here and working for their own benefit is vastly different than coming here, enlisting, and doing their duty to represent and protect our republic, before working for their own benefit. Maybe you see the military as the same as an employer, I do not.

Really I'm surprised that you are tribal about this. If someone wants to join our military and follow through with that entails, I don't much care where they came from, and I would welcome them to stay. Now before anyone jumps on this, obviously there are still measures in place to stop Jihadi Jabar from assassinating our own, and obviously those measures fail from time to time, even within our own "tribe". I'm not calling for open casting calls to all the world, simply allowing those who are living here to join the military rather than be deported.
That strikes me as tantamount to an open casting no matter your protestations to the contrary. If they were doing some sort of penance duty to work their way into soldering, maybe. Like community service rather than deportation. But joining the military is an honor, not a punishment for jumping the line. I want our soldiers to be Americans, not foreign mercenaries. These are not people doing their duty. These are people looking to avoid judgment. I see no upside in a policy like this. It fundamentally changes the nature of the American soldier. It turn it into a foreign legion of lost souls. I am not a globalist but I am pleased to surprise.

Why? How is it different than what we do now?
This might be what we do now if Trad and you are correct. If an illegal can coyote across the border and walk into a recruitment station and get a job, benefits, boarding and training then I think that qualifies as open casting and it strikes me as unwise and unfair.

And along all coastlines.

Best bet is to build a dome over all of America.

I wonder how much that would cost.

Just think about all the jobs that would create.

Or . . . we could return to sanity.

How about a canal? We already have the Rio Grande. Dredge it, extend it, turn it into a moat.

Build monitored crossing bridges for people and wildlife.

Walls/fences don't do much for trade. A waterway for shipping could cause an economic boom in that region that would more than pay for the construction and would make sneaking across much harder.
And alligators. Don't forget the alligators.

Jurassic park some of these:
