THE INDY MIGRATION: Could be a fun drive

Leaving Friday evening and should be fun.

Just a warning "Illinois Drivers are the worst Drivers" so just a heads up. They will sit in the left hand lane on the interstate. They will use the "speed up lane" as a passing lane instead of for trucks to get up to speed. Just be on the look-out.

I also assume because I-74 is the main route, State Troopers will be all over it.

Not. Even. Close.

I know, I was gonna see who I could get riled up. I realize they are not that bad, but my lord driving through Chicago sometimes I wonder how those people are not dead. Some of those people treat the road like its the INDY 500.

That's what we call good drivers.

I don't mind going 10-15 over the limit, but I got passed this past summer by a car doing 100+, sadly about 20 minutes down the road it was in a car accident w/a semi and Im guessing the driver did not make it out, beings his car was totaled. Sad thing to see, but when you drive that recklessly it can't be good.

Some of us can handle a car at 90 + (if you want I'll get about six inches from your tail at 85 and be just fine)

Can't be worse than Iowa drivers in regards to the left lane lounging. I've lived in both states. I also am confused by what you are trying to say about the "speed up lane" and "passing lane".

Hate to break it to you (should I have said "brake it to you"?)

but

You're the only one that thinks you are a good driver.

I-80 truck stop has an on ramp that is really long so trucks can get up to speed before merging. Well Illinois driver see this as a "passing" lane and I have seen several close calls.

They really are not that bad, I just was trying to ruffle some feathers around here as a joke.

Enjoy the trip down HAWKS! Bloomington, Peoria, Champaign, even Danville are great places to stop on your way passing through.

Gotcha. Danville is always my worst week of the year as I have to take a work trip there every February. Although I do enjoy the Moon Glo and the Little Nugget.

Never stopped in Danville. Always stop in Champaign and stay the night and hit up downtown. Its a pretty good downtown with some nice bars.

Good steak house on the IL - IN border on I74. Not sure of the name but I recommend it.

left lane lounging is a nationwide problem... I lived in germany for a little while, and having sections of road with no speed limit cleaned this up immensely. Road rage was GONE completely, and "left lane lounging" was nonexistent. It was great, and the roads felt so much safer. Was difficult to comprehend at first, but man those Germans have it figured out.

Being an Iowan who lives in California, I tend to agree with this statement. If there's half an inch of rain on the ground they all panic.
In fairness, if there is a half inch of rain on the ground anywhere driving behavior should probably be modified.

Cmon people California drivers are the worst hands down in the USA.

Lived in Nor Cal for ~5 years. You just need to know how to treat them. 1/4 inch rain is the equivalent to 4 inches of snow in how they drive. Also, Driving in SF is an "adventure" with narrow lanes.

Atleast you normally get an extra lane. Nebraska drivers seem to be more reckless with fewer lanes to avoid them in. Illinois drivers have all been conservative based on those two sets of drivers.

This is a passing lane. There is a white dashed line between that lane and the middle lane. Nothing wrong or illegal about using that lane to pass.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one annoyed by left lane loungers ... happens way too often on U.S. interstates. Have to admit I've never seen this problem when driving in Europe (not just Germany but also Italy, France, and Spain). As a previous poster said, they've figured it out. Why can't we?
