The Quad City Busts

This is the "new norm". Everyone is going to want to earn as much as they can- majority of these kids won't get paid for basketball after college. Thats the motivation- get what you can, while you can. I don't agree with your assessment that QC is a horrible area for basketball players. Why would you say that?

They didn't save Fran's job, for that they are a bust.

Freeman turned out better than I expected--l I was surprised he didn't run off for more NIL last spring. If Iowa really hat $1.5 million NIL payroll, I imagine Freeman was the highest paid guy and he got maybe $600K and took the paychecks and quit on the team. So I think he didn't end it in a classy way,

I've had a long history of following short, great white Hopes at PG....Tod Berkenpas broke my heart, Troy Skinner proved to me that I was correct to write off short white dudes at PG....Gessel was bigger and more athletic, but he always got his shot swatted or did some eff up to be the worst clutch player ever, so I was still right.

Harding came along and he does some amazing things, but he's still too small to defend his position.

coach was Bucky O'Connor.

I’m from the Quad Cities and I wouldn’t say it’s bad, but it doesn’t measure up to say Des Moines or Cedar Rapids. We’ve had a handful of D1 players in the last 5 years, but not as many as Des Moines or Cedar Rapids. Here is what is happening. For the most part the premier players are moving from the inner city to outlying schools, which 10 years ago were very average. (Johnston, Southeast Polk, etc. In Cedar Rapids Washington and Jefferson were the the top schools. Now it’s Prairie, Linn Mar, Kennedy ( which has a strong basketball history. In the QC it’s Pleasant Valley that has had the most consistent success. Central, West and North have been “average” at best. Even on the Illinois side, basketball has declined, with the exception of Moline and some years Rocky. The problem in the QC is there is basically only one outlying 4A school and that is Pleasant Valley and North Scott. And they are talented but I can’t think of a kid from PV that went D1 in basketball. North Scott has a sophomore that committed to Iowa State. Assumption had a sophomore last year commit to Iowa, but played at a prep school this year. Last year Bettendorf had a kid commit to Wisconsin Green Bay, but redshirted this year. So, as far as numbers of D1 kids, the QC has an average of 2 per year. Not as many Des Moines and Cedar Rapids area, but there is still plenty of talent in the QC.

No offense Lute but that was 70 years ago. Waterloo was in the NBA a mere 5 years before that.

They weren’t busts. Freeman has a lot of talent. Harding is good too, he helped the team a lot this season. Both can continue to get better. I think Freeman is gone but I hope Harding reconsiders.
Freeman is a no talent a$$ clown who's going to be that guy 10 years from now swigging Busch Lattes at the local QC dive bar, with a huge gut, talking about his glory year of being co-freshman of the year in the B1G. Harding will be his short, Napolean wannabe hanger on.

That’s a lot fewer D1 players than QCA parents think they are. That area has the most delusional parents I have ever come across.

Scotty Thompson was a great player from Moline. He averaged almost 20 points as a senior, 3 year starter. Might have averaged 25 with the 3 point shot. 49% shooter as a guard. 4th round NBA draft pick, like 55 overall. ( same as Garza or Joey W ). Loudest I ever hear the Old Fieldhouse when he was on fire in the first half of the number 1 and undefeated Indiana game '76. Faded out in the second half against Bobby Knight's 6 NBA draft picks...

That’s when Wharton was packed for those Western Big 6 games. Awesome atmosphere and a lot of history in that place.

Short and white isn’t what I’d be hanging my hopes on in basketball. But it is the reason Foster Loyer is my favorite B1G player ever. Followed closely by Lil’ Lick.

LOL - If he goes to the right program Freeman can be playing in the NBA in a few years.

No he has talent sorry

I guess I could say "so does your mother" but won't go that low.

Millard, Luershmann, Lorenzen, Marcus Paige, Bohannon, Tyger Campbell, Jared Uthoff, Murray twins to name a few.
Two older players from CR.: 1) Dean Uthoff (ISU --> Australia pro for many years), 2) Rick Williams (IA --> saw a little time w/ the Boston Celtics if I recall correctly).

Grant Gibbs (Gonzaga, Creighton). Jason Bohannon (WI), Matt Bohannon (UNI all-time 3 point leader), Justin Wessel (AZ), Adam Spanish (USC --> CBA, Europe), John Anderson (OSU), Scott Anderson (OSU).

Others too I'm sure if I thought about it some more...
