In summary: total BS.
Yes, there is such a thing as holding by a defensive lineman. If the lineman grabs or pulls an offensive player for the purpose of preventing him from getting to his assignment, it is a foul. Additionally, you can't pull an O lineman out of his gap to allow someone an unabated route to rush. This happens on special teams.
Reiff did none of that. He was washing down the line and actually trying to get to the ball. The umpire threw his flag almost as soon as the play began. Obviously this crew had either been advised prior to the game to watch for it or the IU coaches were in their ears about it because the umpire was specfically looking to call it.

And one more thing-it didn't elicit any surprise or consideration from the crack announcing crew. It also didn't warrant a replay.
I am pretty sure I can count on one hand how many times I have seen that called at the college level.

He’s not suspended for it and Iowa kicked Indiana’s ass. Zebras will error. A lot. Enjoy a great win!

I did. I thought that was as sharp as the Hawks have looked since OSU. I think this team is on the verge of being something special.
My point wasn't so much that an Iowa player got jobbed but that this seems to be a new point of emphasis this year and officials are looking for places to call it.

This has to be an emphasis for the officials this year. I have never seen it called until this year.. I’ve seen it called four times this season in different games. Also, Harbaugh got another roughing the snapper penalty against Wisconsin last night.

Yet Olinemen can grab, hold, tackle guys with no penalties called at times then these so called penalties don’t warrant a flag, not even close.
