See any similarities? I do. Mass hysteria inspired by ephemeral threats. Hatred of women and their conniving body parts.
 
Fear has always been a cornerstone of both major parties.

Right now the cons are saying Muslims will end life as we know it and the libs are saying our cars will.

I always found it neat that like many people assume the "Wild West" was like the movies, they also believe that "witches" were actually burned at the stake in Salem. The 18 girls were hung and the guy was suffocated by piling stones on his chest until he could no longer breath.

Of course trial by fire is more interesting, as are duals at the strike of noon while tumbleweeds make their way through town and bystanders peak through blinds in shops and bars, only to have the piano quickly resume playing and everything go back to normal seconds after the fight while the losers partners drag his body away.
 
In the witch trials the folks were for letting a religion scare them into something not real. Today the folks are against a religion scaring its followers into something not real. I think that's a big step forward.
