The Tesla Semi is Dead!

What about the specs you ask? We’ll see soon!

Despite me pointing out in another thread how I was calling out Elon Musk before it was cool, I do believe this is positive news.

It’s a great day for planet Earth. No emissions over the life of operation. Breakeven carbon neutral ~2 years speculatively. Years 3-30(?) net carbon emissions savings. I’m pumped!

Hardcore testing in heat, in cold, damage testing.

Tesla Semi on a full load went 500 miles on ONE CHARGE.

From beyond Fremont, CA to San Diego, CA. 500 miles. Production unit.

Yes, I’m aware of engine braking. In what circumstances will brakes and engine braking fail and cause a runaway? I don’t understand why that happens.
You have more force than stopping power. It can happen with regenerative braking as well. Gravity and mass can overwhelm a motor the same way they can a transmission.

Regenerative braking doesn’t change the safety calculus. It’s a way to preserve energy. Just like regenerative suspension doesn’t provide better suspension.

Good. Now maybe Elon can work on robot drivers so we don't have to share the roads with a guy binge watching season 2 of Stranger Things.

Checkout the far right slide.

The design project lead designer Franz Von Holzhausen’s said was his “favorite design.”

There is speculation the robotaxi vehicle will not have a steering wheel eventually.

Replacing gasoline and diesel-powered trucks with those that are electric could greatly improve human health and even save tens of thousands of lives, according to a recent report by the American Lung Association. Musk also talked about those benefits during the presentation plus the benefit of noise reduction for people living near highways.”

I think electric cars, trucks and semis are fantastic and a wave of the future. That said there are still issues to be overcome, most namely range. 500 miles is good but a diesel semi will go about 2000 miles on a tank. This semi will be good for companies where the 500 mile range isn't a factor. Think UPS hauling trailers from Chicago to Des Moines.

Well a trucker can only drive for 8 hours at a time, right? Stop to charge during mandatory break, recharge, then another 500. That DC charging is going to be lightning speed and it is coming to the Cybertruck platform when they ship!!!

Nice work, pretty cool. This is the stuff he should focus on, and stop screwing around trolling on Twitter.

These will be great for local trucking operations/local deliveries where they’re going back “home” each night. Need a lot of infrastructure to make them work for over the road I think.

This. Box trucks and "bread trucks" would be perfect for this.

I have this lingering question. How does the environmental impact of used batteries compare to the environmental impact of burnt gas?

Will we be able to recycle batteries with any kind of efficiency? Or will we create massive landfills full of batteries?
