AMEN times 100!! It's not that hard! For years some of us have been clamoring for these two things! It's so easy. If we just ran more misdirection and had more variety in the run game the difference would be huge. Add in actually playing a QB that can be a threat to run and it changes everything. How many games has Captain Stubborn cost us over the years because he can't figure out or be willing to do these two obvious things! It's so maddening!

These two FIRST AND GOAL situations in the 1st half where Iowa settled for a FG were killers.
Instead of being up 21-0 at halftime, Iowa was up just 13-0.
(1) At the start of the 2nd Qtr, with Iowa up 7-0, Iowa had 1st & Goal at the Clown ONE-yd line. On 1st down, Moulton lost 3 yds. Cade, on 2nd and 3rd down, threw incomplete and on 4th and goal from the 4, Iowa settled for a 23 yd FG and a 10-0 lead.
(2) With 1:30 left in the 2nd Qtr, Iowa had 1st & Goal at the Clown THREE-yd line. On 1st down, Cade threw incomplete. On 2nd down, Leshon ran for no gain. On 3rd down, Cade threw incomplete. On 4th and goal from the 3, Iowa settled for a 21 yd FG and a 13-0 lead.

The Lester hire was a home run....this is what KF is supposed to be, the CEO...so give him credit on good hire.
The fact that McNamara was the starting QB up until Wisconsin game----that is all on Kirk and it was Kirk's last
stand to impart his philosophy/beliefs on the offense.
The numbers show Brian Ferentz was clueless/in over his head as OC. On top of that, I think the trend down 21-22-23 was result of
KIrk stepping in and taking more control of the offense thinking he knew better, and in reality he didn't. KIrk
got his kid fired. Even the hail Mary to save Brian's job and go all in on McNamara and spend all the NIL money on McNamara
was the wrong move. You can't say that KF/BF even knew the run game/OLine, because Iowa hasn't been able to run the ball
for last 3 years and as soon as Lester comes in, everything clicks in run game---even with a washed up McNamara with noodle arm and grandpa legs.
Teams will be trying to poach Lester as the turnaround with Brian/Kirks recruits is stunning.
Bringing in Mac was NOT the wrong move, and thats stupid to even say that given where we were WHEN it happened. Now having the benefit of hindsight (as we always do here) and the two significant injuries he's has SINCE he got here then yes, he's a shell of what he once was.
Most of these posts are bitching about Ferentz. You demanded offensive improvement. Iowa has scored 82 points the last two weeks. Iowa is now tied in fourth in offense in the Big Ten. Can't you guys just have a no bitch following the Hawks, with three games to go have doubled their scoring from last season. Now we are starting a QB that looks better than anyone Iowa has played since Nate Stanley left.

Don't you mean GREAT FIRE, by Beth Goetz, of the WORST OC in the country, Brian Ferentz, hired solely by Kirk Ferentz because he was his son, and the ONLY reason Kirk had to hire a new OC to replace him!

Yes they did and the offense is looking light years better. Fans are just pissy because it took the AD and an injury to make it happen.
I predict all of these numbers will improve even further.
Assuming arguendo you are substantially accurate the precise time to whining and whinging is when the problem is solved. Another time to put w & w in the closet is immediately after a high scoring blowout win over a long-time border rival. When the first reaction to such a win is a complaint about the past does not bespeak a balanced mind. It's like the woman still complaining about an ex-husband she unloaded 20 years before.
Sadly, and it is sadly, I haven't had anything to drink since about 94. Bad liver. The only time I got drunk was at the night before the 2001 Inaugural Ball. I wasn't involved in politics but thought it would be a pretty good date to put on the marital ledger. So, we went to these outrageous parties sponsored by the Iowa GOP congressmen, and I started in on champagne. I was making shit of the Cotton Mathers that were running the Polk GOP. A lot of people kept telling me I should take over (party elections upcoming). Well as the night and champagne wore on I thought that Chairman Teddy sounded good together. So off I was in party operations.
I haven't slipped off the wagon since. One encounters many opportunities to be angry, and even a few where forgiveness arises as a real question, in the course of a lifetime. None of them involve sporting events in which you did not participate, nor outcome effected.
Take it from an old man retired and in poor health, it goes by in the blink of an eye. Enjoy the things that are enjoyable and don't waste time even thinking acrimonious thoughts, they just drag you down. Bad energy.

I can say if the head coach is to blame when things go badly, he gets credit for doing well.
Winning 10 games with the worst QB in the country is an outstanding coaching job. Hiring the guy that doubled our points per game was a genius head coach decision.
