The Tim Lester Effect. More Scoring (15.4 PPG in 2023; 29.4 PPG in 2024). 3rd Down Conversions: 29% in 2023 (129th); 45% in 2024 (37th)

Don't you mean GREAT FIRE, by Beth Goetz, of the WORST OC in the country, Brian Ferentz, hired solely by Kirk Ferentz because he was his son, and the ONLY reason Kirk had to hire a new OC to replace him!
No. I mean what I said. Great hire by Kirk. Obviously the game has not "passed him by".

Two things have helped here:

1. Explosive plays in the running game. All those house calls have really helped.
2. Going with Sully in the redzone. Without him, we probably don't break 24 ppg because Cade was a terrible redzone QB. He's okay between the 20's, but just not good inside the 20.

I fully expect the passing game to improve by leaps and bounds next year since Lester will have had a full off season with the guys. Last year, he barely had time to get ready for spring (plus our top 2 QBs were out) and Cade was still trying to work his way back in summer and fall camp.

simple things like pre-snap motion opened things up too, imo

Absolutely. The pre-snap motion alters the run fits and allows those gaps that KJ has been able to exploit with his explosiveness and speed. The other thing that's helped is altering the zone scheme to a mid-zone scheme rather than a wide, stretch zone scheme. Defensive guys end up over running the play trying to get to the outside zone and KJ cuts it back up between the guard and tackle rather than the tackle and TE or outside the TE. Two great tweaks that have really helped.

The offense was so much better this year. The Tim Lester Effect. ;)

At the same time, we saw why Shaggy was 5th string QB going into fall camp.

When's the last time Iowa had to start a 5th stringer, let alone win with one?
