I find this is true of myself if I don't have a real stake in the situation. Like if Kansas basketball is playing Maine, I'm rooting for the Black Bears. But if Kansas is playing Iowa St, I'm rooting for Kansas because I hate Iowa St and want their entire program to fold up.

Or maybe it's how nationally people would pull for Iowa against Ohio State in football, but when Iowa goes undefeated, people hate that.
