I haven't given this too much thought, but just wanted to see what others here think...this year's Hawkeye team seems to be somewhat similar to the New England Patriots in that they aren't the most talented roster, they aren't the statistical leaders in many categories, but the product on the field is "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" principle in action.
Say what you will about Belichick and his methods, he goes after team first guys and wins with them. Obviously having an elite level quarterback is key to their success, but really they don't have the best receivers, running backs, Oline, or superstars on defense. They play team football.
The team this year has relied on good defense, strong Oline play, running the ball and limiting mistakes.
Where I think we'd all like to see KF excel further is with the week to week schemes and enhancements to the game plan (though that may be somewhat limited by the college environment and having fewer practice hours) that Belichek is famous for. I wonder just how much Belichick has influenced KF in philosophy and approach.
