This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

'The time for decisive action is now': Zelenskiy issues call following 'one of the largest attacks'

The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, has issued another plea to western partners to step up their assistance, after Russian launched what he described as “one of the largest attacks – a combined strike, involving over a hundred missiles of various types and around a hundred ‘Shaheds.’”

“Across Ukraine, we could do much more to protect lives if the aviation of our European neighbors operated in concert with our F-16s and air defense systems. If such unity has proven effective in the Middle East, it must work in Europe too,” the Ukrainian leader stressed.

“Ukraine cannot be constrained in its long-range capabilities when the terrorists face no such limitations,” he said, adding: “America, Britain, France, and our other partners have the power to help us stop this terror. The time for decisive action is now.”

Ukraine War Maps Reveal Russian Advances Toward Critical City of Pokrovsk

Russian forces have advanced near the city of Pokrovsk, reportedly seizing nearby areas, a new battlefield map shows.

The Kremlin has seemingly doubled down on its mission to take the key logistical hub of Pokrovsk since Ukraine launched its surprise incursion into Russia's Kursk on August 6.
Moscow troops have made progress on this over the weekend, according to the Institute for the Institute for the Study of War's (ISW) assessment of the Russian Offensive Campaign published on Saturday.
Forces appear to have advanced in eastern Karlivka, southeast of Pokrovsk, and northeast of Mykolaivka, southeast of Pokrovsk on Friday.

On Saturday, soldiers also seem to have moved in on the southeastern outskirts of Novohrodivka, southeast of Pokrovsk, seizing the Novohrodivka City Council in the center of the town and Krasnyi Yar, east of Pokrovsk

This is according to the ISW, which has cited geolocated footage and Russian military bloggers.

Newsweek has contacted the Ukrainian and Russian Departments of Defense, via email, for confirmation and comment.

It would be reassuring to hear about Uncle Himey and other resources dropping in to visit that sector. I know that the orcs are attacking in small groups, but surely there are logistics and arty sites that deserve a visit.

Whoever is still holding up the aid-Jake Sullivan or Biden himself, has to be made to change their mind or be replaced. The grounds are there even remove the President but his Cabinet will never have the guts to do it. We don't give a damn about being friendly with Russia once this war ends.

Maybe Putin would welcome this (to reduce the attacks on the bases, roads and rails) but I hope Ukraine goes after the energy resources in Russia. Seems like they could take out all the electrical power lines coming out of reactors without much risk if any.

This has to be BS right?

I think it’s unintentional.

As they say, when the shit is flying, shit happens, or something like that.

U.S. probes Iranian missile claims

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The United States is investigating Iranian claims that three Tomahawk cruise missiles fired by the United States might have missed their intended target Friday and landed in southwestern Iran.

The Iranian News Agency reported missiles landed in the area of Maniuhi, close to the border with Iraq.

Another rocket was reported to have hit near an oil refinery depot Friday evening in Abadan, some 30 miles east of Basra. Eyewitnesses told reporters two guards at the depot were injured in the blast.

The U.S. military is investigating whether the missiles might have gone off course. Tomahawk missiles are fired from submarines or ships. The missiles have a range of 1,000 miles.

We know they can do it as there was a video last week. This might even be the same event from the ground view though this video does not show them hitting the drone.

Apparently energy infrastructure was the target:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky offered an alarming update on nationwide Russian bombings of his country on Monday, describing blackouts “everywhere” and significant harm to Ukraine’s power grid.

The Russian military launched a sweeping drone and missile campaign on Monday in which it reportedly focused on bombing energy infrastructure. Some Russian media reported that the strikes impacted at least nine regions of Ukraine – including the capital, Kyiv – while Ukrainian state media listed at least “15 regions” suffering various negative effects from the “large-scale Russian attack” out of the nation’s 27.

...

Zelensky addressed the country later on Monday, confirming that the Russian attack featured “more than 100 missiles of various types and about 100 Shahed UAVs.” Shaheds are a kind of suicide drone originating in Iran.

“It was one of the heaviest strikes – a combined one. More than a hundred missiles of various types and about a hundred ‘Shahed’ drones,” the president said, according to the Ukrainian state outlet Ukrinform. “And like most previous Russian strikes, this one was just as vile, targeting critical civilian infrastructure. Most of our regions – from the Kharkiv region and Kyiv to Odesa and our western regions.”

“There is a lot of damage in the energy sector. But wherever there is a power outage, restoration is already underway. Our repair crews will work around the clock,” Zelensky promised. “We will restore electricity.”

The president used his address also to demand that Western powers, particularly the United States, help Ukraine shoot down incoming Russian drones and missiles, comparing his request to how neighbors have supported Israel by helping shoot down projectiles shot by terrorist groups such as Hezbollah and their patrons in Iran.

The Russian news agency Tass additionally quoted Zelensky as stating in a comment on the messaging service Telegram that Ukraine was struggling with power blackouts “everywhere” due to the attack.

“There has been heavy damage to the energy sector. Everywhere where there are blackouts, restoration work is underway,” Tass quoted Zelensky as saying.

Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko, in a separate statement, explained that the significant damage will require the country’s electricity authorities to implement “a regime of emergency power cuts.”

"Dassault Aviation has successfully concluded negotiations for the sale of 12 fighter jets #Rafale to #Serbie . This contract marks an important step in bilateral relations between France and Serbia, strengthening military cooperation between the two countries.Emmanuel Macron's visit to Belgrade, scheduled for August 29-30, should formalize this strategic agreement. The French president seems to have orchestrated this diplomatic and commercial operation impeccably, thus highlighting French technological know-how and the importance of the Franco-Serbian partnership."

Editor's note: This is a developing story that is being updated.

Ukrainian forces may be attempting to break through the border into Russia's Belgorod Oblast, regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov claimed on Aug. 27.

Kyiv has not commented on the claims, which could not be independently verified.

The statement comes as Ukraine's cross-border incursion into neighboring Kursk Oblast reaches its three-week mark. Belgorod Oblast is lodged between Russia's Kursk and Voronezh regions and borders Ukraine's Sumy, Kharkiv, and Luhansk oblasts.

"There is information that (Ukraine) is attempting to break through the border of Belgorod Oblast," Gladkov wrote on his Telegram channel.

"According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the situation on the border remains difficult but under control."

Reports of the alleged attacks have also emerged on Russian Telegram channels.

According to the Mash channel, roughly 200 Ukrainian troops have attacked the border crossing at Nekhoteyevka and another 300 at Shebekino.

Another channel, Shot, claimed that Ukrainian forces had been pushed back from Nekhoteyevka after suffering losses and claimed that no clashes had taken place at Shebekino.

Shot pointed out that the front near Shebekino, which lies just across the border from the embattled Ukrainian town of Vovchansk, has been pushed further south after Russia launched its offensive into Kharkiv Oblast in May.

Nekhoteyevka also lies at the border of Ukraine's Kharkiv Oblast, some 6 kilometers (almost 4 miles) from the Ukrainian settlement of Kozacha Lopan and around 30 kilometers (almost 20 miles) north of Kharkiv.

There have been multiple signs that Ukraine's incursion into Kursk Oblast is spilling over to Belgorod Oblast. A unit of the Ukrainian 252nd Battalion appeared to have entered the village of Poroz on Aug. 10.

Russia also claimed that Ukraine unsuccessfully attacked the Kolotilovka border checkpoint on Aug. 12.

Previously, Shebekino became a key flashpoint during a cross-border incursion carried out last year by anti-Kremlin militias fighting on Ukraine's side."
