This team is just to lackadaisical

That's been my complaint for several years. It takes no talent to play hard. I'll never understand the casual approach most of the Iowa players demonstrate on a regular basis. Fran's passion sure doesn't seem to carry over to his players. In fact, there seems to be an inverse relationship. I dunno, but I think it's weird. Hell, play hard and whatever happens happens. But these half-hearted performances are getting really, really old.

Part of the appearance of lackadaisical play comes from Fran's focus on recruiting players with length. It's obvious that his philosophy is to build with length 1st, gradually improving in quickness and strength. It's kept the program on an upward trajectory. But it can be frustrating at times. Note that next year we have a lot more strength coming in with the length, but it's taken the program a while to get to that point.

They've been outrebounded twice and one of those games was the Marquette game.

Our record is 4-2, so we've outdefensed 4 teams, with 2 beating us.

We're on a current path to a 20-10ish record.

Improvements are what every team strives for.

They are on the softer side.
If they had a Reggie Evans, or even Reggie-lite inside, it would make a tremendous difference.

I would wager that the people who complain about a lack of intensity are not seeing the games in person. I don't think you can sit courtside and come away thinking the Iowa team is lackadaisical. This team is efficient. Not a lot of wasted movement. Don't mistake that for toughness or intensity lacking. Also Iowa teaches to not foul. When we foul it is a mistake. Fran does not want the other team going to the line. This is a different philosophy from someone such as Tom Izzo or Bob Huggins.

I wouldn't call any of our guys lackadaisical. First off, I don't know for sure the exact meaning in a basketball context. I've always thought that if anything we play a tight, precision based game of motion and ball movement. A thing of beauty when it is working. It's when we abandon the plan much like we did last year at Wisconsin that we find ourselves getting smeared.

And, just guessing but if there doesn't seem to be enough "show"? Good! I want the guys getting back on defense asap and behaving as if a dunk or a made three is supposed to be normal for us.

Tonight is going to be an interesting matchup. (OK, I looked up the word lackadaisical. Lacking enthusiasm and determination, carelessly lazy?!?!!? Oh, no way.) But it's going to be our precision team ball vs FSU's five guys on the court that are all individually pretty skilled...and a couple of them maybe even great one on one players.
