This teamis regressing!!!

Jennie Lillis Baranczyk
I know i will be ridiculed for this response but as I said months ago there should have been a search for the coaching change. People were under the impression that Iowa would lose its cohesiveness and maybe some players but a different coach would have brought portal players that would have offset this.

Priorities for next practice: (1) free throw shooting; (2) layup drill & put-back bunnies from 1 foot.

Jan is an excellent choice, she is more than qualified. Jenny is a good coach but doesn’t have Jan’s qualifications.

So you haven't been watching Oklahoma play?
She's a really good coach, and she still gets on the court with the team in practice. A lot of upside dor OK program right now, and depending on matchups, a good possibility for an Elite 8 this year. She would have been a stellar choice for Iowa.

Time for Jensen to show those qualifications with some confident coaching.

Lot of overreactions and valid concerns this year. Players can make a coach look good or bad. When you rely on role players and freshman you will often look bad. Some lack of adjustments is concerning. Particularly that msu game. That game still losses me off. Horrible officiating but some costly questionable decisions.

Last night is a W if they make some free throws. I felt like we were the better team, but couldn't find our groove. If I'm a guard I would stop with the lobs inside. I can't understand why were still doing that when it's been a TO so often. That's the primary legit gripe IMO. It's a young team so it's silly to right off Jan as a good coach at this point. I don't feel it's all jans fault the upperclassmen have been so disappointing.

This team seems to be in transition. In a lot of ways the potential leaders and biggest growth is in the freshman, but they arent quite ready to fully take over. So Jan has to balance the stability of the vets vs the potential of the rookies. Hopefully the rookies continue to emerge.

Forgot the other legit gripe besides lob passes. Our defense has lost it's intensity. At the start of the year they seemed to get after it and play D as well as I think they were capable of. This slump has led to them forgetting what primarily helped offset the loss of cc. They better pick up the defensive intensity if they want to make NCAA and pick up a win or 2.

Well they did hold Illinois to only 62 points. That's pretty good. They seem to have success as a team when they score over 70, which would have got a win last night. Better competition, so that would be reflected.

Maybe a bigger issue is limiting the second chances on that end of the floor. ??

Illinois is not good, Iowa should have won by 20

I said from the start I wasn't a fan of the "search" process.

Yep.

Here's 3 minutes of Illinois highlights. Lots of not so good defense. But go to .53 and 2:30 to see AOG absolutely dogging it.
The 2:30 clip was crunch time in 4th quarter. Iowa behing 57-54, shot clock at 10 seconds. Bostic comes out to three point line to set pick on Guyton. Bryant hits huge 3. AOG remains 15 feet away - no help whatsoever.

Jan cannot tolerate AOG lack of effort. AOG needs to sit.

Watched a Zoom with Raina today, She said they are still trying to figure out rotations/lineups. She said some of the lineups are better offensively but lack defensively and vice versa. (My reading between the lines, Syd and Kylie are better defensive options but lack on the offensive end) Also said the team really needs to get better at boxing out. And yes the staff knows the turnovers are a big issue.

She also said the team lacks a true on court leader and they are pushing Hannah to fill the role, She said Hannah is very quiet off the court but can be very vocal on the court.

She also said the freshman class is very talented and will continue to get better. She was asked what is keeping Mallegni from getting more minutes and she said Mallegni is behind Hannah and Syd at the 4 and that it is not easy to learn to play the 3 and 4. She also said she thinks Mallegni is going to be a star.

It's not the post it's the passer trying to lob it over when it's not there.
The posts are bad at getting the passes and converting too, both ends are bad. We don't have a post that warrants it being a focal point of the offense and when we make it a focal point it results in turnovers and players standing around watching.

O'Grady makes zero effort to move to catch the entry pass. Thus each pass has to be PERFECT. She is a statue.
Nice young lady I'm sure, but no athleticism or competative desire.
She won the height lottery, but has done little from a basketball development standpoint.
That is what frustrated Caitlin with her, I'm guessing.
