Three straight seasons of Iowa All Big Ten - first time since '40's

Fran's definitely building up some success to sell to recruits. Uthoff will probably be drafted this year. 3rd straight year for that if that happens. 3rd straight year in the tournament. I think recruiting has picked up and hopefully it continues and success follows that recruiting. Can't believe people on here try to undermine what Fran has done and continues to do for this program. This program was a mess when he got here.

I do not believe that someone posting on this or any other forum can undermine a coach. I am not nor have I ever been a fan of Fran. Posting positive or negative comments about the Hawkeyes is not going to help or hurt the team, it either makes you popular (positive comments) or get you labeled as a hater/troll (negative comments).

Maybe undermine isn't the word but I don't know how people can be negative or critical or whatever you want to call of Fran's recruiting based on the success he's had here. I remember when Fran got here and the uphill battle he has had in recruiting. There wasn't much to sell on recruiting when he got here. Now he's got some good selling points to work from. I'm hoping he's able to build on this success in recruiting and in W/L's.

It's true he's made things better. And when he cashes his checks he's well aware of how much he's appreciated. Where sports fans go wrong is when they turn coaches into saints. Bo and Joe are a couple examples of that folly.

No one is turning McCaffery into a saint. But it is nice to know that your head coach is busting his butt trying to improve the team, both recruiting and developing players. Iowa was at a historically low point when he took over and know we have fans that aren't happy with twenty win seasons and NCAA appearances.

Why is it every time someone paints a less than rosy picture of Fran the Fran apologist come out and inform everyone of how much of a dumpster fire the program was and that we are lucky to have Fran and his 20-22 wins a year? The Fran apologist need to just accept the fact that many want more than 20-22 wins a year and ending the regular season in full melt down mode 2 out of the last 3 years. I know that this type of post is not popular but then I never really cared about being one of the popular people.

I'm not trolling, just curious. Where are you at with Fran right now?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion I just do not share MTHawkeye43's. The program was an absolute dumpster fire when Fran got here. That's fact and you can look it up. We lost close to a decade of national relevance in basketball. That span did irevable damage to our ability to recruit players to Iowa City. That's what he inherited that not too many coaches were willing to step into (see the list of candidates at that time - not exactly a who's who of college basketball).

This year we were picked to finish 9th. If you look at the standings that is where Northwestern finished at 8-10 and one game better than PSU at 7-11. Northwestern is not going to the dance at that position. So Fran and the players exceeded expectations by 4 games. Had it not been for the 4 game slide it would have been 5-6 games. Either way that's pretty darn good. Now like others I thought we were under-valued but saw this team being a bubble, last 4 in / out at 19-11 & 9-9 type of season. That's about where Michigan is and they are not making the dance barring a big run in the BTT.

So in 6 years Frans program has won a game on the road in every road venue except Maryland who we have gone their one time. We are going to our 3rd NCAA in 4 years and the other year was a NIT runner up (pretty good team also). One might argue that our lost decade cost us a bid that year. Don't tell me recent past history does not matter (see Witchita State this year). We have won 20 games 4 years in a row. Had 3 consecutive first team all-B1G players and MAY have our 3rd consecutive player drafted in the NBA. We have also had a slew of academic award winners and very few issues off the court. I would also argue that if we had a post player the year before Woody arrived (Gatens Sr. Year) we might have made the tourney that year. That was a pretty good team minus a post presence of any kind.

The February slides are frustrating no doubt but if you step back and look at the big picture and the amount of accomplishments, many of which are the first time in 15-20 years it's really darned impressive.

The best part to me is we are not done with Fran here and have not seen the best yet. That's super exciting to me. The types of athletes and players are being upgraded due to success and our name is getting known again by kids. Next year will be a struggle due to youth and inexperience especially early but I fully expect by the end of the year we will be much improved and poised for a big run the following seasons. We will put out some serious length and athletes next year across the board.

We have stability now and dug out of the worst times. Fran and his staff are picking up invaluable experience of how to win at this level and manage pressure & expectations. There's a lot of promise going forward thanks to Fran, his staff and all of these players who bought in.

Yeah but just wait. Kirk became a saint to some (and still is to many) and their only reason for visiting the boards is to shout down any critical posts. Sports fans are an irrational lot with attachment issues.
