The double technical against Fran was total BS. Other coaches live on the court with no T , epic tantrums by
Hurley and others are overlooked. It was a tournament game, and the technicals were a massive momentum changer. He made no hand signals either. Like Fran or not, it was a garbage call

Or, after the fist T, he could have....shut up?

The foul disparity in this one (and I hate the Illini) was based on the style of play, nothing else. We were settling for jump shots, they were taking it to the rim nearly every time. They were bound to get to the line more.
Yes, I had no issues with the refs yesterday.
I do think the second T was quick, but I suspect Fran crossed over from complaining to impugning character.

Settling for a jump shot is ok as long as you're not hacked doing it. A lot of no touch fouls called on Iowa yesterday while Illinois was getting away with a lot of solid fouls. Brock even got run over like a dump truck hitting a kiddy car. No call.

Ever watch a guy named Tom Izzo? His antics on the sidelines are every bit as bad as Fran's, and then some, but the little leprechaun gets away with it because he's Tom Izzo and he wins games. He's a national college basketball celebrity. I want Fran to leave Iowa basketball now, BUT fairness demands that someone point out that Fran has never gotten a fair shake from the officials. But after watching Iowa for decades, I think it's more of an Iowa thing than a Fran thing. Go back as far as you want under any coach and give me one example where Iowa won a game because the officials were Hawkeye friendly. Go ahead. I dare ya.

Most coaches are no different than Fran and, like Izzo, many are as bad or worse, but they don't get the same reaction from the officials that Fran does. Go ahead. Check it out. The evidence is right there in plain sight.

Iowa lost yesterday because they didn't block out consistently, they didn't hit the few FTs they were so graciously awarded, and because Illinois has more talent. But the way the officials treat Fran and Iowa is a problem, and if Beth is doing her job, she's letting the BIG know about it. And then she's dismissing Fran and planning how to get the Hawkeyes back into the national conversation.

Chris Collins of NW was enraged claiming that BIG screws them at every turn also.
Haves vs have nots.

There are a few B1G teams that routinely get f*cked even at home and northwestern is one of them. Minnesota is another.

Put me in the "pretty weak" crowd on the toss. Obviously we don't know he said to get the first, but the second appeared to be based on him saying--pretty calmly--"that's BS". That's very weak.
But as many have said, his reputation and history doesn't help him. There was an article on the toss this morning that basically focused on his angriness and rep for ripping in to refs. We've had enough of that, and hope we've seen the last of it on our sideline from him.

Have you ever coached? If so, been T'd up for what appeared to be pretty minor stuff (on the first T)? That's frustrating as ****. And for the 2nd T, Fran wasn't out on the court. Yeah, I can read lips and know what he said, but has that ref given a T every time a coach has said that? I seriously doubt it.

That is an indictment against Fran. A part of being a big time college basketball coach is influencing the officials.

Izzo and others have worked the game and gained the respect of the officials and get the calls.

Fran receives zero respect from the officials and barely gets calls. That is part of why he needs to go.

LMAO--I have been a coach for 24 years at the varsity level. When you're in trouble with the refs, you shut your mouth. It's not rocket science.

According to radio, Fran had been warned in the first half. Right before the T, Dorsey gave him a stop sign and Fran kept going. Pretty much automatic at that point. Then majic words plus a gesture toward Larry, and it's goodbye.

Over 15 years Fran has managed to piss off nearly every Big Ten official, and his wife has done the same with nearly every high school official.

The reason it was weak was because his staff were guiding him back to the sideline and he said it over his assistant coaches as he was walking away.

It's not to take the blame away from Fran, but it was clear that the ref was looking for any small excuse to justify a quick second technical.

Fran no doubt suspected he was getting fired the next day. It was his final gesture (interpret it as you will) to B1G officiating and Iowa basketball. I don't blame him. I think it was Leistikow or Tachmann who had a quick column last night to the effect of "Fran knew the deal." We'll recall for a long time the video of him leaving the court and taking the long walk down the hallway to the dressing room.

It was Little Larry Scirotto. Was anyone surprised? He hates Fran and routinely is tough on Iowa. Considering he lied to his superiors in Pittsburgh and got canned because he broke his promise to stop reffing, Scirotto does not deserve any support in his fight with Fran
