Ticket sales

There should be about 67,000 on hand Saturday, and ISU, UNI, and Wisconsin will almost certainly be sell-outs of over 69,000.

Saturday might have a smaller crowd than expected for the first game because there's a very good chance of thunderstorms in the area for that afternoon. Good for those of us who buy our tickets from scalpers... bad for the athletic department.

Is the middle section of the North end zone operational yet? Is that where they have the bar and VIP area?
I imagine it won't have the glitz and glamour ready yet but as long as people can sit in the seats

Not surprised at the ISU,UNI, Wisconsin numbers. All those teams are going to bring fans. Only 2500 left for NIU is surprising. Yeah first game and all but still pretty good.

I was just looking at Hawkeyesports ticket site. There are not a lot of seats left for Saturday or any of the first four games. I hope that creates a good home field advantage and builds some momentum leading into Wisconsin.

I am sure Clone fans and Badger fans were on Iowa website buying tix too as aftermarket sites probably higher cost.

Friday evening / Saturday morning possible rain but not afternoon. Rain chances have diminished for game time.

So will this game have higher attendance than Maryland (homecoming), Northwestern, or Nebraska?

No. The home games will ALL sell out this season as long as the Hawkeyes--and the meteorologists--do their part, and I'm hopeful they will.

Keep in mind who will be in attendance (Hayden Fry, Bob Sanders, the 1983 staff) and the fact that history (Kirk, the all time wins leader at Iowa) is expected to occur. And if it does occur, it will be interesting to see what happens on the field postgame. Also, it's the home opener and people are itching to see the North End zone in person. There's lots to be excited about.

And then, look at the all time B1G wins list:

Stagg
Hayes
Schembechler
Paterno
Ferentz (if Iowa beats N Illinois)

Why wouldn't you want to be there?

Did something happen? KF was asked specifically about coach Fry, and most of the staff from Kirks early days being there on Saturday, and what it would mean to him, and he said right now he was just concentrating on NIU, and he would cross that bridge after the game.

I know there are some folks trying to bring Coach Fry back to Iowa on a private jet and whisk him back home shortly afterwards, but I think it's very difficult for him to leave his wife back in Texas as her health is not great currently and coach obviously has a higher priority to his wife and her health then showing up here. If he felt comfortable coming here, he would. You have to respect him for having his priorities straight.

Obviously, I like like many I'm sure there, Ob Ob, was not aware of coaches Fry's issue. Only reported what was said at Kirk's presser on Tuesday. I would certainly understand coaches reluctance to leave his wife's side, just as she was there for him during his struggles.

I predict Kinnick will be rocking on Saturday.

Just feels like more excitement than usual this season. The West is improving and that means more excitement.

For those who may not be aware, Iowa defeated Ohio State last year, 55-24.
Agree. I expect a very inspired crowd on Saturday ... I know 7 of us will be rolling into Iowa City via Des Moines by 8 am ...

Most likely the opener will be better attended thant the later games unless the Hawks are in the hunt late. There's a crap ton of tickets left for Maryland, NW, Neb. We're talking thousands of tickets on the sidelines and even more in the end zone.

There's always a chance he changes his mind if he's comfortable that his wife will be taken care of in his absence. He showed up the last time and I was frankly shocked that he made the trip. You just never know with JH Fry!

Fitz just hopes no bottles thrown in this game this season when his team comes in.

Does anyone remember in the 80's students throwing whole chickens (the kind you buy at the grocery store) on the field? I do I think.

@Blair Sanderson , any idea who on the 1983 staff will be there Saturday?
