Time to get rid of DEAD WEIGHT

I stand by the post. Guarantee we play better next year without Cook's turnovers, poor rebounding and 45% free throw shooting. Dailey, Connor and Moss will play significantly less with Touissant and CJ in the mix. I also think Fran will find a grad transfer or juco guard.
why you complaining, I thought that one minny loss meant we are on our way to a special season? ;)

1. Cook
2. Dailey
3. Moss
4. Connor
5. The assistant coach who scouted this game
6. Strength and conditioning coach
7. Barta

I’m sure if cook is gone next year people with post like this will be the first ones to complain about lack of athletes we have in the post. As for Dailey he is the 9th man on team playing less than 10 minutes. He’s not the issue.

Cook’s athleticism is curtailed by his horrible shooting, rebounding. Defense, free throw shooting, gripping balls and extremely high turnover rate. Dailey is an issue because the scholarship could go to a better guard with some offense.

Until the Fran swoon and Cook/Moss checking out the last month.
yes because jbo hasn't had any bad games and garza has been a beast the past month or two, cmac can shoot with the best of em, rk never has a bad game etc lol

yeah lets just blame moss and cook lmfao

All of the things you mentioned are part of the Fran swoon, but Cook and Moss are juniors and checked out rather than led the team.

Everyone must of forgot pemsl lack of speed and defense last year. If that’s improves and he brings some toughness he will be a nice player. I’m guessing someone transfers cause there’s not enough minutes to go around.

He was also playing the 3 spot which won't be the case anymore.

Yet he led our team in rebounding this year. One of the only players who got doubled like second half that freed up other guys. Yeah why would we want a 2nd team all big 10 player back next year....

Thankfully, the obnoxious OP and a select group of pissants don't constitute the majority of posters here and elsewhere who appreciate the efforts of the team to entertain us each and every game. It's so easy to blame the players, their coaches, and Barta, as being guilty when we lose. Hell, they even throw Doyle's name into their troft of negativity, and anything else that might fashion someone who is at fault. I've been a Hawk fan for over seventy years, and win, or lose, I will continue to be supporter and Hawkeye fan going forward.

I wouldn't say this was great year--I see it as solid year but not tremendous to use Fran's own word..the Fran fade roughtly similar to 2014 and 2016. I do like that they didn't get blown out in 2nd NCAA game like 2015 and 2016 teams. Frank still in only coach in Big10 that has never made it to a Saturday game in BTT. Alford had some moments in BTT that Fran has never given us and similar overall record. No one called Alford great. This year was great relative the the crapfest that was 2018.
Thank you Tyler, good luck at the next level. And agree with the OP, change is needed. None of us should be content with the current mediocrity we’ve been dealing with.

yep, cook looked emotionless!

LMFAO
Tyler Cook is the player who emotionally got us back in the game at the beginning of the second half. His effort and aggressiveness is what woke us up. Winning teams have players that lead their teams with intensity in how they play. Today Tyler Cook was that guy. All the bashing of Tyler over the last year is ridiculous and asinine. Sure he is not the perfect player. He has weaknesses just like every other player that has played the game. He has conducted himself with class over his three years, been a great teammate, and represented his team and university very well. I for one, hope he comes back. He doesn't realize what a great player he could be if he keeps working on his game. A little more two footed jump stops and a Garza or Kreiner type pivot off the glass, he could be really tough to handle down low. You could see how much he cared about his teammates and his time as a hawkeye when he was crying at the end of the game. Great Hawkeye in my mind forever. I hope he comes back.

He sure did appear “checked out” against Rutgers, WI, NE, MI, Cincinnatti, and first half of TN. Go back and watch them.

How else do you explain his avg. of 15-16 points dipping way under 10 points during the collapse?

How many times do we get others teams bigs in foul trouble and then quit feeding our bigs? I'm sure that kind of crap has nothing to do with it, just cook being lazy!
Look at OT today, they went and did the same crap again. And then people whine when he tries to do too much on his own......

Now don't get me wrong, he is far from perfect and "could" be a much better player. But to act like he is the main reason for that stretch or is this game is pretty funny to me....
How many times has jbo had very few points in a game and even just a few attempts? How many times does jbo do very little in the first half? How many posts have you made about him "checking out"?
Garza struggled BIG time in that stretch too. Are you saying he checked out and didnt care? You know, the guy battling baer for the biggest heart on the team(imo).

Also, your overall points are not going to be higher in conf play vs the entire season-especially the way fran schedules.

Could go on, but really.....whats the point?

Need more athletes that can create their own shot and take the ball to the rim, need to hire assistant coach that's a defensive guru. Can't continue being one the worst if not the worst defensive teams in the big 10 if the Hawks want to take the next step up.

THIS is a fair assessment without naming current players as “dead weight”.

Clearly, you posted this too early, but....

1. Insane. He's not Zion Williamson, but he does a lot of good things.
2. Whatever. You'll always have bench guards. If he moves on, someone else will fill this spot.
3. Not dead weight, but is inconsistent.
4. Someone has to be a backup PG. He's basically a freshman and will either improve next year or get passed up by Touissant.
5. Was the first half a gameplan/scouting problem or did they just get smoked? Game plan looked fine in the 2nd half.

Im interestesd to know why you think that. Im not trolling..genuinely asking

It's easy... Cook as the very first? You got guys like Moss and Dailey, Fran, Barta... but you put a guy who averages near 15 pts and sparked the comeback as our biggest dead weight? He is not without his faults (free throws, plays out of control at times, etc.) but Cook is far from our biggest dead weight.

Don’t you know? One coach was in charge of a 1st half scouting report and another for 2nd half scouting report.

Cook is likely to leave in spite of the fact it’s probably a bad move and Baer will be gone, There will be additional depth with unique skill sets that can help match ups.

2020 recruiting will be the biggest thing to happen next year, but we should have enough to go dancing.

We exceeded my expectations this season and there were a lot of good memories provided by kids that usually played all out. As a fan that’s all you can ask.

Now if we can have a Reggie Evan’s clone fall into our lap............

Thankfully not all fans are apologists and old farts who are satisfied with mediocrity.

I like Cook but this is not unrealistic.

They'll have more length depth in the frontcourt with Nunge, Pemsl and PMac.

I see Nunge as a guy who can really develop.

I’m on record next year saying they will be better without Cook. However, they can be great with Cook but that is dependent on him changing and accepting his role as not the focal point.

I thought Cook played a very good defensive game - at least in the 2nd half. He was really moving his feet and staying in front of everyone. If he comes back and plays like that every game, we WILL be better next year.

I think that’s what makes TC so polarizing. He shows flashes of staying within himself and playing really hard on both ends. He’s a beast when he does that. No sane Hawkeye fan would say that guy doesn’t help the team. The trouble is half the time he looks like he’s auditioning for the NBA by trying to do too much. Couple that with poor defensive effort/awareness during those stretches and it becomes detrimental to the team. 2nd half TC was awesome yesterday, no doubt.

Why the assistant coach who scouted this game. We started this game the same way we started every other game. That's one of the problems with Fran as well as Kirk. We start all games the same way and then try to adjust.

I can not remember the last time in BB or FB we started out a game and I thought, "This is different, Fran/Kirk must have seen something they wanted to exploit." Can you?

Beg to differ. Anytime a non blue blood is within a missed FT of the sweet 16 is a great season - no ragrets...

A Hawkeye fan hoping that, by all accounts, a bunch of good kids transfer out is not a fan I want to associate with. I guess I don’t understand that mentality. There is also no track record of Fran being able to replace them adequately if they do happen to leave. IF they all come back and Fran is able to distribute minutes, this could be one helluva team. I would love to see them all come back and have a great year and revisit this thread. If they were malcontents or trouble makers, then sure. But that isn’t the case.

And for the millionth time regarding TC “auditioning for the NBA”...whose job is it to dictate the way TC plays? Fran obviously sees some benefit to Cook occasionally attacking off the bounce. Sometimes it works, sometimes it’s to our detriment. I have a hard time believing that Cook is going over Fran’s headband just doing whatever he wants. The people that believe this are the same people that bitched about Atwaan Allen and Jovon Johnson playing 10 yards off the receiver. Yeah, because D-1 corners just kinda pick their own coverage. Cook has his flaws, but if Fran didn’t want him bringing the ball up the floor he wouldn’t do it. And if Fran doesn’t want him doing it and repeatedly allows it, that falls on Fran.
