To those who would love to see Kirk Ferentz gone

Guys, let's be even more realistic... if Ferentz got canned, his buyout would severely cripple our hiring budget.

We aren't offering anyone $4M+ after that buyout...

We already know this.

This was the argument for why we can't divorce for him during the last contract. We were waiting until that contract ended.

But Barta and his wisdom deviced to make that same mistake again. Now we are in the same predicament.

Everybody always talks about how honest and upstanding Kirk is. If he has any sort of a soul, or any semblance of what's right, he would resign at the end of the season nullifying the contract. I am just throwing this out there, as all the Ferentz supporters over the years have always said what kind of an upstanding, moral kind of guy he is. He should feel guilty taking this kind of money and producing this kind of product!
But his true colors have shown through the years. What other coach in the country has a kid play for them at a power 5 school? How many have had 3 kids play for them at a power 5 school? How many coaches then turn around and hire one of these kids at a salary that most people will never see? Then within a year or two of them starting give them a $100,000 raise? Which again is more than most people make in a year?
It has been quite apparent for some time now that Ferentz is in this for himself and his family, and what he is doing is almost criminal!
With Iowa having such a great law school, you'd think they would find a way to negate this contract. If they can't, then they need to fire the person who wrote it.

OMG. The most honest and candid post to appear in this forum in years.

Saying what many of us are thinking.

Absolutely delusional to think those three head coaches would consider Iowa.

Iowa is a lateral move AT BEST to Louisville where Petrino doesn't want to leave, he's tried that and it didn't work out.

Recruiting to TCU is a walk in the park compared to Iowa where Peterson is already getting paid the same as KF. He has built TCU into the player it is. Even if the Big 12 does implode and he wants to get outing there his name would be at the top of the list of other much more prestigious jobs.

Herman is one of the hottest names in coaching right now and is getting mentioned for every job where a coach is on the hot seat or close to it. Places like LSU, USC, Oregon, Oklahoma, A&M, Auburn, Texas and Notre Dame. All places Iowa can't hold a candle to.

FYI, TCU head coach is Gary Patterson, not Peterson

If you guys think KF will EVER step down, you are delusional. He probably wouldn't have worried about renewing that contract if he was ever even CLOSE to doing that or retiring. He is stubborn, and will probably have to be hauled out kicking and screaming after he has totally demolished his legacy.

The ONLY thing that will get him out before that contract is even close to ending, is not buying tickets, and not by 10 or 15K, i mean by 40-50k. That will never happen here though, to many fans loyal to Hawkeye Football.

Brace yourselves folks, it's about to get pretty ugly, or I think the accurate word is, lower mediocrity. That is where this program will stay until he is gone, lower mediocrity.

Guys Kirk can't be fired now and today wasn't a bad coaching job, NDSU was a terrible coaching job he lost us that game. Today he didn't imo. The refs let NW win why aren't more fans realizing this rewatch the fuc@in game. We aren't ohio state if the refs called a fair game we won everybody is happy. Also if you want to blame someone blame Bart's for not letting Kirk ever get fired even if we won 3'games the next 4 years he would still be here. But Kirk didn't lose today's game a
Few players did and the refs did
"We were out coached today" vs Northwestern. Desmond King.

Let us just suppose Iowa is able to lure a Tom Herman to coach at Iowa, how much more money would the football program bring in if Herman could turn Iowa into a national power? Could Iowa afford to pay Herman 5 or 6 million a year to be a player in the National Championship hunt every year?

Let's just say Barta woke up tomorrow and read these threads and decided to give Hawkeye fans what they're clamoring for, and gave Kirk Ferentz his Walking Papers. Be totally realistic now, what kind of Coach do you think Iowa can get? Be honest, do you think Iowa is the kind of program to get an elite coach? I guess Les Miles is now available, however he was fired for not winning enough with Elite talent, so how would he do in Iowa City with average talent? Bret Bielema, I like him asva coach, but do you really think he can take Iowa to the next level? An elite coach, who might be able to upgrade the talent level somewhat just by his name? Iowa is too small potatoes for a Coach like that. So sound off people, who do we really think could take Iowa to the next level?
We can speculate all we want, but Ferentz is going nowhere, especially after the ridiculous extension. This is very disappointing seeing several other programs in our conference having either secured proven coaching talent or aggressively searching out leaders that will improve their programs.

Yep, the focus shouldn't be on KF's job right now. It should be on Barta's job.

FWIW. This article is a few years old (2012), but still interesting IMO.

After 30 years of adult fandom, I think I finally got this fan gig figured out.
I stopped buying season tickets. I stopped donating money. I watch the games at home with good drinks and good friends. I complain when we play like crap and I enjoy it when we play good. I lose ZERO sleep over Iowa athletics.

If we lose the next 2 games, how many people are in the seats vs Wisky at the beginning of the game? How many people are in the seats at the start of the 4th qtr?

I will be there no matter what until the end. Always have.

That's why you come to Iowa forums to discuss. You just don't care.

The refs let a one win NW team score all 38 points? The refs held Iowa to 79 rushing yards? They are Kirks players. He recruited them and coached them. He is responsible for them.

What I don't understand is why they did not keep someone around to help Croston. And let's face it we do not have elite receivers. They are having trouble getting any separation. And man do we miss Henry Krieger Coble.

What makes me laugh about the crowd who thinks we cannot get a better coach is that we had Bob Stoops in the bag until we pissed him off. Granted, he had Iowa ties but he was the hottest assistant coach in the country at the time and that is exactly what we can do again. No we are not going to get Saban or Meyer but we can get the hot lower level program coach looking to take the next step or the hot coordinator who is ready to be a HC.

Every coach loses to an inferior team once in awhile, see Urban Meyer last year losing to Michigan State, and Michigan State losing tonight to Indiana.

You state examples of teams that were playing very well, but then were caught off-guard by a determined quality underdog that played lights-out in a program-defining performance. Do you really think that described Iowa? They've been playing like absolute dogsh*t, and despite the double-digit spread many people saw that turd coming a mile away.

Well, at least someone here may get their wish soon.
Yeah probably the Michigan game. Don't care as long as they show heart. Iowa wants to play like Alabama but it doesn't have the skill players or lines or Saban. Our coaching staff is not good enough to overcome talent gaps. Lest we forget Michigan St was DESTROYED by Alabama last year. And I'm sorry but Dantonio is a least a decent coach. That's the bar to be champions folks and we are not even close.

I would take a NC hunt every 2-4 years...
