Some interesting things from today:

  • Miles Taylor, Parker Hesse, Keegan Render and Riley McCarron have made significant strides since last year.
  • Pekar has been good at TE but behind him it's still a mystery. Fant likely to play and maybe both true frosh TEs. Beathard and other players also talked up Fant. Greg Davis compared Fant to Jermichael Finley yesterday
  • Toks might play
  • Duncan was referred to as unflappable.
  • Feels good about Kulick and Ross at FB
  • Couple of soft tissue injuries but nothing serious.
  • Sounds like Young emerging on two deeps was part performance and part necessity from guys missing time in practice.
  • Trying to teach Beathard how to slide
  • Bower will start at WLB but probably a rotation to begin with.

Thank you for the update. I love to hear about student/athletes making significant strides!!

Also on Anthony Nelson: Ferentz called him a "hard-charging guy". It would be nice if they could find some DEs to put pressure on the QB. Last year's D was totally different with Ott in there rushing the passer.

"Trying to teach Beathard how to slide"

Ha. I'm pretty sure CJ played baseball and knows how to slide. Getting him to do so is likely the challenge they are facing.

Actually you are wrong on that. Ferentz said that CJ trying to slide looks pretty ugly

We all have our shortcomings. Sliding and condom application are the only two I can think of for CJ. :D

From what I saw of the press conference we have a solid 3 DE's and 3 DT's.

The one positive about not having a reliable field goal kicker is we should see Iowa go for it more on 4th and short in opponent's territory.

We will soon find out. I know the coaches have not been happy with the field goal kicking (not licking) at all. Someone needs to step up
