Tokyo to introduce 4-day work week option for government officials starting 2025

Many hospitals in our nation's cities have been doing
something to help nurses have more family time. They
work only 3 days a week and have a 12 hour shift.. With
their 36 hour work week they are considered full-time
employees. Nurse love this type of schedule.

Heavy work expectations are a significant part of what is causing problems with the birth rates in Japan but it's not the whole thing.

But at least it's a start. I'm hoping some wealthy country figures out how to reverse their birth rate problems on the long term so that we can copy it.

This would be great but I could also see it causing some problems.
If I worked four 10 hour days, I feel like I’d find another part time job to make a little extra money. I’m sure plenty of others would do the same and it eliminates the extra family time and gives more people money to spend causing prices to go up even more.
Heck for 10 years I worked a full time job and part time job. Worked five 11-12 hour days. The part that sucked is I didn’t have any time to do anything else in life.

Government employees don't even show up now! Make them come to the OFFICE 4 days all of them!
On the fifth Day, they can work from home, but 80% of staff must be in the office daily.
So, the 5th-day choice would be based on seniority or performance.

America is too stupid to do a 4 day week. Too much family time if the parents only work 40 hours in 4 days instead of 5. Most would work 4 11s with a 30 min lunch for the same damn money to have 3 days off every week.
Why do we need to keep the 40 hours?

Serfs in the middle ages got 10 times the free time the modern american worker does. Are we less efficient than they were?

I can understand why you'd think that, but most govt workers don't wash dishes for a living like you do.

Depends on the type of government employee.

You worked FIVE 11-12 hour days but didn't have time to do anything else in life during your 2 days of no work? Makes sense.
