We won 8/9 matches today. Last year on Championship Saturday we won one match. Not saying I am happy with it but the guys wrestled their hearts out today. & for that, I am very proud of them.
1 finalist is unacceptable. Minnesota had more.
And how many champs did they have? Oh, and how many wrestled for third place?1 finalist is unacceptable. Minnesota had more.
There's no way we peaked. Two who made the finals last year didn't this year. One who AAd last year didn't this year. Kemerer finished below seed. Yeah, Sammy finished better but was pinned 2/3 last matches. You can't have that abysmal of a Friday and legitimately say we peaked.I have been a doubter of Tom the last few years, but I will give him credit, I would say we "peaked" for nats this year.
The appetite of your dumb assedness, knows no bounds.1 finalist is unacceptable. Minnesota had more.
You tend to win more when two guys seeded for the finals end up wrestling Saturday morning.

It's crazy to think but I don't think we're too far off. Everyone is saying PSU wins with ease. Hall and Joseph are beatable and gives me more confidence for our guys. We'll be young and unpredictable. New leaders will emerge and for the first time in awhile there's momentum behind the program. That should concern those at the top. It's like the Yankees...everybody loves to hate them but when positivity and momentum start to roll...watch out.
Who tosses Terry next?
25 Laux/Wagner
33 Happel (he'll make the drop)
41 Turk
49 Sorenson
57 Kemerer
65 Marinelli
74 Young
84 Cash
97 Holloway

I'm a little concerned for Terry when Sammy throws him, he could break a rib. It's crazy to think but I don't think we're too far off. Everyone is saying PSU wins with ease. You're not making much of an argument if your points are literally (i) BS lost to the same guy as last year (the prohibitive Hodge favorite btw) just in the semis instead, and (ii) a freshman wrestled below his seed by placing 3rd instead of 2nd. I mean, get real. Aside from a single bad sequence by Kem in his QF, those 2 wrestled well.
And I think as LAX pointed out, Kemerer actually scored more points going for third then had he gone on to the finals because of how much bonus he had. Not sure but he rolled right through to include bonusing a guy that he had been close with all year.

The argument concerns peaking. That means the team overall being better at nationals than at any other point. Sorensen went from nearly beating Zain to getting dominated and pinned. Three of our top ranked Guys were pinned on Friday, and our top gun went down for the first time. We had one finalist. That's not peaking. There's no way we peaked. Penn State won 3 matches in the finals and even a couple in the semi finals that could have easily gone the other direction. I don't see 150 becoming a common occurrence at all. I do think the top 4 teams are well positioned to all score over 100 points year in and year out.97 points. Gotta start somewhere, so let's start there and move forward with Kemerer, Marinelli, Lee and the new era of blue chippers. Not happy with 4th, but we can only control the points we score, and 97 is back in the realm of where we've wanted and needed to be. We're going to need 125+ to be competitive in this new era, maybe (eek) 150. But that's life. Accept it, make a plan, and move forward.
I'd say that's the results of not cutting as hard. It's a long tourney so the more he can eat instead of dropping weight the better. And I think as LAX pointed out, Kemerer actually scored more points going for third then had he gone on to the finals because of how much bonus he had. Wait, who's not AAing? We could realistically have 9 AA's next year. Half of those probably low AAs if they get there but also 2 guys should be in finals. 100 points isn't out of range.
Well looking at it objectively, taking off the black and gold colored glasses.. I see Laux(125), Happel(133), Turk(141), Sorensen(149), Kemerer(157), Marinelli(165), Young(174), Wilcke(184), and Stoll(285) as AA locks.Wait, who's not AAing?Love, love the optimism.
