The FLEX offense originated with Dr. Tom Davis, who coached at Stanford, Iowa and BC.
But it was 2 of his assistants, Gary Williams and Bruce Pearl, who modernized the flex offense into what we see today. It's also important to note that it inspired John Beilein's vaunted 'Shuffle Series' (Princeton + Flex).
In the modern era, flex cuts are seen in virtually every offense as a read or as a counter. The only difference is instead of 5 guys being 15 feet from the hoop, like in the early 2000s with Juan Dixon, Gary Williams and the National Champion Terps, spacing has been infused into it.
On target/on time is THE key with the FLEX offense, as demonstrated below with Bruce Pearls' Tigers.
Auburn- Flex
