Peter Jok led the way with 25 or 26 points in less than 20 minutes. Tyler Cook had some magnificent dunks and ended up with 15 or 16. IsIaah Moss looked good and had 14, Brady Ellingson also finished in double figures. Most everybody played a fair amount. Pemsl looked like he sustained a minor injury and didn't play as much. Dom Uhl played pretty well as did Nicholas Baer. Our defense was somewhat improved but we got out rebounded again and that is starting to concern me.
Ryan Kriener is a good rebounder, one of our best. Our point guards had their moments both good and bad. Neither of our guys will be able to keep up with a really outstanding point guard.
I'm sticking with my 17-18 win projection and NIT.

Very sloppy (by reserves) blowout game (after the starting five left after building a lead). Peter Jok on fire with 27 points and missing only a few shots. He played only 16 minutes. (Banged his knee but not serious). Cook and Baer (7 boards, eight points) played well and Moss had 14 off the bench, mostly in the second half in mop up time. Ellingson also played very well with about 13 or so points. The starting five played well, but the reserves had problems. Wagner and Uhl were steady if not spectacular (3 to six point range). Moss was a bright light, especially when the game got to the playground stage. Pemsl didn't play much and took only two shots. Might have been (minor) injured. Kriener and Dailey each had 2 or 3). This was a game in which Fran was trying to even out playing time and get an idea of his first eight or nine or ten for the Virginia game (our toughest so far). That's a game where he plays the kids he trusts and not everyone may play. Bohannon and Ellingson played a lot of minutes and Williams was a lot more quiet tonight.

Appears Kriener plays better help defense and communicates well. I've heard he hasn't practiced much though. Spends lots of time on the bike in practice. Hopefully ankle gets back to 100%.

A lot of standing around and watching when the shot goes up. For whatever reason Iowa doesn't think they need to get a body on anyone and box out when the shot goes up. They either stand and watch or sprint to the rim instead of checking someone.

Played a pretty odd combination down the stretch of Moss, Dailey, Bohannon, Ellingson, and Kriener. I would have thought Pemsl or Wagner could have gotten a few more minutes there (or at least some FT shooting practice), but I guess if Pemsl was banged up a little that explains it somewhat. Hell, Uhl could use some more court time as well.

I think Fran wanted to see Dailey, Ellingson and Moss in particular a lot tonight to help figure out the pecking order. We won't play 4 off guards. We may not play 3. They all bring something to the table and a little bit different.

we outrebounded Seton Hall

Cook hasn't done much on the glass so far. We need him to rebound aggressively and thats an area where I believe he can and must improve for us.

Call me crazy, but I don't think Uhl has played as bad as some people think. He may not be scoring as much but he played a solid game last night. In just 16 minutes, he had this line:
6 pts/6 boards/ 4 assts/ 1 block

Through 4 games, he leads the team in rebounding and has played better defense than many of the players. He has areas to improve, for sure, but he's starting to understand his role with this team which is good.

I didn't watch the game.....so disappointed with the absence of Kreiner vs SH. He had arguably the best stat line on the team vs Sisters of the poor. 13 minutes, 6rebounds, 3blocks, 4assists and a steal(?). Seems to me we need a shot blocker, defender, rebounder, with the ability to score. He is the last piece of the puzzle, and I was beyond frustrated that he didn't play vs SH. Adding to my anxiety was the feeling he was going to be redshirted. Not sure if it's still a possibility, but in my mind, he is a key to the success of this years team. Did I hear correctly UNI has 7 Fr? And are playing pretty competitive ball? Go figure.

First fans of Iowa on this message board do not care what UNI does. How are you going to handle your aniexty if you find out Fresno State might be starting 5 freshman? What about Colgate? Dang you are going to need major meds.

Kreiner did not play against Seton Hall because he's not quite ready for the prime time. If you actually watched him play you would notIce his game needs a little polish. Hopefully he will be able to contribute more as the season goes along and Fran will likely work him in as he feels comfortable with his progress as we could use another true big.

If you know the rules on red-shirting you would know that once you play a second in a non-exhibition game you cannot be redshirted. If a player suffers a season ending injury or illness and meets the qualifications he/she can apply for a medical red-shirt (less than 30% of games participation and did not play past the half-way point of a season). So you can be assured that Kreiner is not being red-shirted nor anyone else this season on scholarship.

And1Hawk, I appreciate responses like yours...your disagreement with each contentious statement I made, written without name calling, addressing the reason for your disagreement with clarity and logic.

I'm going to agree with you on the indifference toward UNI. But I stand by my belief regarding the importance of the skills Kreiner possesses. And I get it that Delgado didn't kill us, and that SH went small. The ease with which we gave up layup after layup resonates very loudly how bad some....of our returning players played on the defensive end. I just felt that if warranted a substitution never made. And that I'll not understand.

Maybe I'm wrong or maybe the team and the coaches learned the significance of their mistakes as they reflect on the defeat or while they watch the game film.

Oh, and you are also correct in the difficulty I will have, not accepting defeat, but in accepting a lack of effort. Great teams leave it on the floor, and with depth, comes an urgency to play with recklessness.
