CRYIN Illini Grades OFFICIAL, undisputed

There’s a common denominator with our heavyweights in the last # years. Their coached by a certain heavyweight that liked to wrestle one point matches all the time. That certain coach had one of the best double legs a heavyweight ever had, but would never pull the trigger. Who does Ben have to work at in the room that will push his lungs like they need to be pushed?
I would think Warner and Buchanan rate well enough to blow his lungs out.

Keuter’s legs are so skinny for a Heavy. Looks like Truax out there. Obviously his world title shows he’s got a ton of talent, but he’s got to add some bulk
He definitely does have the look of someone that skips leg day rather often….However, I am sure that is more about his body type and genetics. Legs can be very hard to put on size for the more “long and lanky” body types. But, he has definitely shown he has the speed and explosiveness in them to get in deep with his attacks. If anything, he needs the lower back strength to be able to lift and finish once stopped underneath. That, or get to angles like has already been mentioned….

More wishful thinking than anything. He just looks so much smaller than some of these guys
That’s the problem with Heavyweight. If you aren’t 265, you are outweighed and outmuscled. Doesn’t matter how good you are if you are giving up 25 lbs of weight/ muscle. Snyder did it, but didn’t wrestle much that year, and he was a senior, and that was along time ago. Dreyshaun has to see that and knows he’s not getting past 240. Not much room in collegiate wrestling for guys between 210 and 240.

You'd like to see Kueter move around more considering how athletic he is. Instead he is just staying square and conventional.
Agree, has to change how he wrestles. Current method works on guys his size. Unfortunately, adapting styles isn’t a forte of our coaches.

Maybe just a dream but if viable only leaves Cruz as a weak spot. And Cruz is gaining ground it seems. Estrada looking very tough.

The end of BK's match last night he did show a lot of power. He picks up the Illini heavy from Ben's knees and drops him on his side (but still didn't finish the blast double for a takedown). That takes a lot of strength when your opponent is hipping back against you and weighs 260 plus. BK needs to cut corners and ankle pick early in matches to build a lead, then use his athleticism to counter guys when they have to score to catch up late in matchs. As others have said, everything is blast doubles and single legs straight on currently. That worked in highschool, but won't against the best heavies in college.

Which is really weird, because once you get a heavy to his hip, or flat on his butt, the takedown is almost always a sure thing. It shows how much more athletic some of these current heavys are.

But, that doesn’t mean a blast double isn’t a good move at this weight. In many cases it is s one of the best. Kerkvliet is very good at a similar type double and finish. Still, he is also great at creating angles. A mixture of both would definitely be huge. You just can’t get stymied underneath without getting the opponent seated…

Estrada starting to look like an AA sooner than later. Technique, tank, strength and will.
I like him!
Let me know when Estrada beats someone good. Currently he is our 4th string 49 if everyone is healthy. I’m not putting him down but he hasn’t beat anyone.

Wrestling hvy at 235 is like Drake Ayala wrestling Gabe Arnold.

If he was just wrestling he'd put on weight, not lose it. If he was playing d-line he'd gain weight, not lose it. It's playing LB that keeps him from bulking up too much at this point.
If BK really wants to be in the NFL , hee needs to be in the 235-260 range minimum, big enough to put a hand in the ground when needed and still quick enough to be a LB.

I watched the PSU vs Nebby right after. Why is Iowa so boring?? With the exception of Cali and Buch Iowa guys can barely create offense at all. What is it about Iowa sports in general that are so vanilla and boring. Twitter was just killing the hawks (of course they didn’t say anything about iLL.). 4 straight matches with 1 take down isn’t going to cut it at NCAA’s. I know I’m stupid and should just be happy with the win but the lack of development of wrestlers has to be worrisome.

WTF. Why would they wrestle our "4th string 149" at 157? Maybe he is our 2nd string 149/157 instead?!?!
Didn’t KV just beat him at Soldier Salute? Maybe be KV is out of matches and will lose his red shirt. Estrada was wrestling Freshmen divisions at open tournaments early in the year, KV was wrestling the upper divisions. Didn’t Rathjen beat KV at an open? Again I’m not sure how healthy guys are. Just going by results it would seem Estrada would be 4th string. Just trying to see what Estrada has done this year to say he would be the guy next year at 49, or even be a viable all American next year.

He just beat a top 20 opponent (who himself beat a top 10 opponent last week) while wrestling up a weight.

On a factual level, this post is a disaster.

1) Cassioppi scored a ton of points for a heavyweight. Career bonus percentage over 50 and above 60 3/5 years.

2) Telford did not have a good double leg. I'm not sure I ever saw him hit one. He had a pretty solid lefty single though. Are you thinking of Dan Erekson? That's the last Iowa heavyweight with a good double.

I have no idea if KV or Rathjen are banged up. KV and Estrada are true freshman with a lot of upside and Rathjen had lots of chances last year and this year. KV should not be out of dates yet. Maybe they saw something in Estrada that gave him the nod while Teemer is out, but he is making the most out of his chances at 157 and it sounds like he has never cut much weight so maybe he is better at 157 than he would be at 149 this year. He has been a pleasant surprise in duals so far.

I think if he would ever play in the NFL it would be as a 3/4 TJ Watt type OLB(which Iowa doesn’t play) or he’ll need to bulk up big time and play DE(Matt Roth?). Doesn’t seem like he has the fluidity and burst to play a sideline to sideline coverage LB.

What teams does "Twitter" root for?.......

Are they all bandwagon PSU fans or are these dipsh**s that are just riding PSU's coat tails because stupid f*** wrestleheads still think Iowa is the big bad in the sport because they dominated the 80s and 90s?..........

Either way, kick all these people, quite literally, in the f***ing testicles that they don't have, and tell them to stop backing Penn State just because their own teams f***ing suck and can't beat Iowa.

Thanks in advance! :D

FYI and FWIW, you’re extremely transparent in your bias.

Kraisser was 2-2 against the Hawks until the other day. One win was over a Martinson bro...care to guess who the other one was over?

No one is penciling him in as the next 3 time champ but he has taken advantage of his opportunities and his losses are to his teammate CV (4-1) and Lachlan McNeil (5-2). Of incoming recruits last year, he was barely mentioned because he wrestled in Cali, was injured most of the year, finished 4th his senior year, and didn't do freestyle. It's ok for fans to metaphorically slap a true freshman on the back for winning his first match in Carver and getting it over a ranked guy.

Unpopular opinion but I’ve not seen anything out of bk to say he’s gonna turn it on, people were saying national champ at some point. Idk if it’s the weight, experience, lack of offense but he could be gone quick in March.
I am in "wait and see" mode. I'm not seeing a podium yet.

This.

I honestly think BK is just figuring it out. He spent his entire high school career physically manhandling and out-athleting every kid he wrestled.

Only got national level competition in FS. So he’s having to adjust. He’s definitely undersized, so he’s going to need to do a better job finding angles and committing to attacking (way) earlier

The kid is too athletic and cares too much not to figure it out. I’m more worried about his training than anything else. If what the insiders say is true, and Brands has recognized the need to train guys differently - that’s where BK will see changes.

We are only 2 months away from nationals. Time for things to start clicking this year are quickly ticking away. Training has already been going on for over 6 months now. I don't see a big improvement coming this season.

There are many reasons. Maybe others are hurt. Maybe his physicality puts him as our 2nd best option up a weight even if he isn't 2nd best at 49. Maybe the 2nd best guy is a true freshman, so they're saving his limited dates for better competition. Or maybe hes the 2nd best right now. Even if he wasn't a few weeks ago.

None of the reasons matter. He's improving at a rapid rate, and taking advantage of his opportunity. I loved the fire out of him after the match because he is probably the quietest kid in the team.

Parco was the only one that surprised me. The rest of the Hawks who won their matches wrestled very smart in my opinion against very respectable opponents. I wanted to see Parco open up, but I reflect back to Brandon Sorensen. If Parco keeps them close and wins with great defense like BS did then I’m good.
