Baer has had a rough couple nights shooting, but has played great in other areas. He always seems to be in the right spot at the right times and makes plays.

Unusual team stats.
Hawks minus 10 on the boards, gave up 19 offensive rebounds.
They also dished out 24 assists and 15 steals.

Baer is at his best creating havoc defensively as the focal point of his game.

I kinda cringe when he shoots 3's. I know he can make them, but it's not his game. I'd rather they be by "defensive omission" than by design.

When he goes flat out for 5 minutes at a time being a wrecking ball defensively to the point of being absolutely gassed is when he's at his best. Then give him 5...rinse, repeat all game.

Great to see all the differ contributions tonight. If Jok doesn't play against the Huskers it would be interesting to see who the leaders are. Honestly it could be any of the 10 guys. That makes us a dangerous team. Fun team to watch.

Hes we need to do better on the boards for sure. Rutgers couldn't hit the side of a barn, so I guess there were alot of rebounds to be had on their side.

I counted 7 offensive rebounds on one possession for Rutgers. They took 8 shots and couldn't make a basket. It was like the whole team was doing a Reggie Evans impression. You'll get your fair share of offensive rebounds when you throw up that many bricks. Take away those 7 rebounds -- which netted Rutgers 0 points -- and it looks a lot closer. In fact, we still got more second chance points than Rutgers despite the 2:1 offensive rebounding advantage.

Yeah, but I think 7 of those offensive rebounds was on one Rutgers possession to start the second half ;)

And they didn't score that possession.

I like the starting lineup. They are agressive, and do not let any team get too far ahead , if at all. Might keep this one going .. Great team play. Love that.

Having Jok out has pulled this team together. More so than could have been expected. Fran has to be darn pleased. Bring Jok back healthy, and look out! These guys will roll some teams... Here is to Jok fully recovering (quickly) for the home stretch!

Just don't bring Jok back too early. That would flatten the remainder of the season, for certain(see previous 3 losses).

I want to see more of Dailey.. Get this guy some minutes. He is raw and needs to add strength. Obviously. But redshirt is it too late. So, let's get him some experience. A little game tape goes a long ways....

Dailey has the quickness that nobody on the team has. If he can match that with some cat like responsiveness, and anticipation for experience &coaching, his defense will be outstanding!

He has some good offensive skills already. More experience + coaching up + some seriously hard work = a potential big-time player. Consistent hard work will be his key to success. Work harder Mr Dailey. Every minute, of every day. Rewards will follow...

Keep Kriener getting some minutes & experience, too. That is only good for our future and the remainder of the season.. He is growing, learning with every game.

Anyone else think that Baer does not get credit for as many steals and blocks as really had? Making shots is just a bonus.
Love Baer. But to say making shots is just a bonus? The only total in that stat book, that counts toward who wins is shots made. Rutgers kicked our ass on the offensive boards and lost by 20 points.
Actually think Nick needs to be a little more judicious in the number of three's he is shooting. Those misses lead to run outs for the other team, with our defense not back.
I also think this teams playing better as a team while Pete's been on the bench. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes back out when he returns.

Iowa has definitely moved the ball better since PJ has been out other than when Cook and Uhl touch the rock. Cook, especially needs to find teammates when the double/triple team D comes at him. He finally did 1 time last night and Iowa got/made a wide open 3.

I love all these guys but Baer, might go down as my favorite Hawkeye. Does so many little things that don't necessarily show up in the box score.
He does the hard and dirty work. Every good team needs at least one. Wisconsin & MSU always seem to have somebody like this.

I just don't get the love affair with Dailey. While I realize he hasn't had many opportunities to prove himself, nothing, IMO, flashes "I need more minutes".
Of course, I said the same thing about Brady, and once Jok was out he has had the freedom to prove he can play at this level. Maybe Dailey could do the same?

If Jok comes back against Nebby, the key will be: Do we still have the same ball movement we have seen the last two games, or do we got back to everyone standing around waiting for Pete to make something happen?

You do realize, I hope--unlike the guys on TV--that one big reason Rutgers gets so many offensive rebounds is because there are so many offensive rebounds to get! The Scarlet Knights miss a LOT of shots, which results in a LOT of chances for offensive rebounds. Make a few more shots and the "awesome" offensive rebounding stats decline significantly. One of the keys to being a great offensive rebounding team is to miss lots of shots. o_O

Certainly truth to that,BUT, if we did a better job at blocking out, and defensive rebounding they would be one and done, and wouldn't be able to get 6 or 7 offensive rebounds on one trip. It works both ways.

Baer is supremely vital to this team. Go look at the official stats season summary on the basketball home page. He is top three on this team in four categories.

Exactly, simple statistical analysis shows that the correlation between wins and offensive rebounds is not significant. Iowa had much fewer chances at getting them because they were making more shots. Not to totally discount the importance of them but purely looking at that stat line can be very misleading.

That stat is a little misleading. Rutgers was chucking up 3 pointers. We had the inside position, but they were bricking so hard and bouncing back out to 3 pt line. One play they had 4 offensive rebounds from 2ft away
and still didn't make the shot.

I thought it was funny when the color commentator was pointing this out about Cook. It's the black hole
when he gets fed the ball inside. Kreiner is excellent at kicking the ball out. He's our best passing big man.
Cook needs to learn this skill.

I think after the big build up McCaffery gave Cook before the season, Tyler feels a lot of pressure to score. He just needs to settle down and he will be fine.

I don't have a problem with any of the three pointers that Baer is taking. He is usually wide open. It's not like he is hunting points. In reality, despite Jok's scoring, Baer is probably the MVP of this team.

One way to score more baskets than the opponent is to prevent them from getting shots off.
