Tony Perkins needs to play tonight

Curious if Fran is going to play his bench more in this game. Garza played 38 minutes, Wieskamp 35, CJF 31, JBO 30 and Connor 28. I'm thinking Fran will use his bench early in this game and that's probably going to mean minutes for Perkins and probably extended minutes for Patrick, JT and Keegan. Sucks Nunge went down because he could ease Garza's minutes in this tournament.

Playing with house money now, not that we dont want to win, but thinking the long game here, this is great opportunity to give the bench some extra high intensity minutes in preparation for ncaa tourney

In the first matchup with Illinois, he was the one guy that really kept Ayo under wraps. He’s a guy Ayo will struggle to drive against because Perkins is taller, is a very good athlete, and is a verity good defender. I think Perkins could be the X-factor tonight if he plays.

I agree. And Ulis. As someone already pointed out, a lot of minutes were logged by the starters last night. Illinois is too athletic and is playing really good basketball right now. Iowa is likely to get run out of the gym today.

Last, Keegan needs more than fifteen minutes today.

It depends on the complexion of the game imo. If we’re in a shootout, putting in Perkins might be good for a stop or two, but will severely inhibit us on the other end. If it’s low scoring, then it may make more sense to try to force some turnovers and get out in transition + not let Ayo get hot

Psycho T has actually been a pretty poor defender in his minutes this season. He definitely has the tools to be a good defender, and in time he will be. But so far, he has consistently taken poor angles on D, just due to his inexperience. Tony has definitely had some good moments though and I agree the Hawks need some good minutes from him today

If Tony Perkins plays tonight he'll be the only Hawkeye on the court. Game is at 2:30 this afternoon...just saying. Fran has said multiply times that he's going to use his bench and then reneges and only plays Keegan, Patrick, and Joe T., so don't expect to see Kris, or Ahron, or Tony on the floor unless Illinois is so far ahead, he pulls his starters early to keep them healthy.

If he plays tonight it'll be too late...

Good post OP and comments. I hope Fran goes riverboat gambler this afternoon and uses the bench guys extensively. Keep a couple shooters on the floor and have fresh legs out there to match IL's athleticism. Ayo, Frazier, Williams, Curbelo and Miller present a major problem. Will be interesting to see if he puts Josh O. in for a few minutes here and there. Big body, 5 fouls and Kofi is way too big for Murray to deal with.

Ahron, Kris, and Tony are extremely athletic and should have played more during the season. That being said, Fran is like the Father that bought Christmas presents and refuses to open the package until after Christmas day.
Will we see them today or next weekend? Stay tuned.

How do you see Perkins severely inhibiting the offense?

They should have played more throughout the season. Pretty tough to come in and play key minutes in March when you've been riding the pine all year.

Maybe mix in Perkins but no more than that. Team has looked much better since we consolidated to 8. I do think we need to play the more athletic configurations this game. So extra minutes for KM, Pmac, JT. Potentially a dash of Perkins.

He's never in long enough. And in fairness to Tony, he's had some nice takes to the rim this year. But I agree he can't be in unless you also have a couple shooters on the floor.
I think he’s going to be a hell of a player for the Hawks. A good defender, crashes the boards really well for somebody his size, and is really explosive to the hoop. I’m just not sure it’s worth having Fredrick (who is a decent man defender himself) on the bench and sacrificing on the other end as Perkins is mostly a defensive specialist who defers to his teammates at this point

I agree. Perkins has to really focus on improving his jump shot this off-season. He’s good at driving already, he just needs to polish that area. I really only want him to play because of his defense.
