Top 5 Iowa Dunkers

No to Connie Hawkins. It is an embarrassment he was ever on campus and his being associated with Iowa basketball should not be celebrated.

OMG U R SO STUPID!

Just what in the world are you even talking about? Connie Hawkins got a raw deal at every turn and Iowa should be embarrassed that they expelled him. You haven't a clue...

Admitted to a university he didn't have the academic background to qualify for.
Paid by boosters for jobs he didn't show up for.
Took money from a known gambler.

Raw deal? LMAO!!

Can’t believe no one mentioned Greg Stokes. Left handed dunks were awesome...And Sir Jamalot had the cartwheel dunk that was ridiculous

Did Reggie dunk or just rebound?

He dunked some, but nothing of the flashy variety that stands out in memory like the others listed. Probably about one every other game average. He got fouled so much he did most of his damage at the line. Probably would've had more dunks if he hadn't got hacked so much around the rim.

I was just sitting here trying to think of his name. Yip,Greg Stokes could throw it down.

White over Wright??

Not. A. Chance.
Winters over Wright? Not a chance. White deserves to be 5 & Wright 4 on his list. Winters isn’t even in the conversation of my lifetime best dunkers.

-Only old enough to remember Iowa b-ball from the mid 80’s though.

Here's a guy most of you never heard of but he could jump out of the gym. He was Gerry Jones, 6'4" forward on Miller's '65 - '67 teams. I never hear him mentioned anywhere, but he was my favorite player growing up as Ralph Miller was turning the Iowa program into a winner. He could jump to the moon and was a dunker although it was a smaller part of the game back then. The dunk was outlawed Jone's senior year, which was a crime. At 6'4" Jones averaged 10.4 rebounds a game and 16 plus points.

Page 191, # 37 on the all time scoring list although only playing in 64 games. Rebounded like Clay Hargrave but could score as well.

Dunking was outlawed after his senior season.

This.

#1a Doug Thomas
#1b Gerry Wright
Agree

Thomas most powerful dunker by far - surprised he didn't take down a backboard or 2

Wright was most creative/acrobatic - remember his cartwheel dunk, the statue of liberty/James Worthy dunks

Cook fastest dunker - from time he left floor to dunking thru the rim

Doug didnt remind me of Dominique at all. He was a one foot jumper. TC with his explosive two feet jumping style, and power, reminds me more of Wilkins.

Like it was his fault? Jeeebus.....the greatest talent to ever walk on the court in a Hawkeye uniform.....fresh or varsity. Whose fault was it he came to Iowa to play basketball but he couldn’t read?
It may be an “embarrassment” but do you rewrite history to save (your) face?

Whose fault was it that he took money from boosters? Was he forced to take it?

Thank god that game isn’t played today, huh? Have you read his book? I once attended a fresh game when he was at IC....he could dunk 3 balls at one time..I was about 11years old at the time...I was impressed. I have never seen anyone else do that.
He was a great talent who was taken advantage of and also, partially responsible for allowing it to happen to him. The NBA really screwed him over really nothing in terms of today’s ethics and standards.

Gerry Wright was nick named, "Sir Jam A lot", not about his ability to dunk, but because of his love for listening to music extremely loud! Not a lie, I was a student when he played.
