Top B1G returning WR and TE are injured entering '15

Iowa's senior TE Jake Duzey and Illinois sophmore WR Mike Dudak both sustained knee injuries coming out of Spring Drills. Both may be back at the mid-point of the season. Maybe in time for each to play against one another, when Iowa host Illinois for homecoming in October?

The best TE last season was Minnesota's Maxx Williams, but he bolted early for the NFL. Iowa's Dallas Clark did the same, after Iowa's successful 2002 season. Iowa was 8-0, while Minnesota was 5-3, respectively.

While Minnesota is playing solid football, they haven't reached the promise land yet?

Minnesota was 119th in pass offense in 2014. In the B1G, defense and running the football can be a healthy formula. It helps to have an attacking defense and solid special teams, as well.

Best WR/TEs for 2015?

Overall, the B1G East dominates this category, with most of the love shining towards Penn State. The B1G West lost two good ones in Duzey and Dudek.

  1. WR Tevaun Smith, Iowa - #6 in receiving yards in '14, during B1G play. Dudek was #1.
  2. WR Alex Erickson, Wisconsin - he gets more love than Smith (per Athlon Sports), but #9 in receiving yards in B1G games.
  3. RB Josh Ferguson, Illinois - he was #10 in receptions in B1G games last year. Look for even more with Dudek out.
  4. As a unit, Nebraska is strongest with TE Cethan Carter, WRs Jordan Westerkamp and De'Mornay Pierson-El returning to lead the receiving corp for the Cornhuskers.
  5. WR Geronimo Allison and WR Malik Turner, Illinois - #2 and #3 WRs last year for the Illini return.
  6. WR K.J. Mayo, Minnesota - top returning receiver for the Golden Gophers, after losing both Williams at TE and Isaac Fruechte at WR.
  7. TE Dan Vitale, NW - They lost top two WRs in Kyle Prater and Tony Jones, but Vitale is back, along with #1 WR Cameron Dickerson. Seniors Christian Jones and Miles Shuler step into starting WR roles.
  8. Danny Athrop, Purdue - this unit may be stronger too, with Athrop top returnee back from December knee surgery. Juniors DeAngelo Yancey and Cameron Posey are back. Two JC transfers to watch are Anthony Mahoungou and Domonique Young. The top three TEs departed for Purdue, so senior Jordan Jurasevich is only one with any experience back.
It should be an interesting season in the B1G West ...
