Toren Young

I agree, Toren wasn't messing around.

Knew where he wanted to go and didn't care how he got there.

Around defenders or through them.

Mekhi looked good too. IKM was alright, perhaps he has had patience preached to him a bit too much. One huge whole, seemed like he was slow to hit. Patience goes out the window when the hole opens, gotta get through it.

Marsette does not look natural running the jet sweep. Have not seen any of our rushers look good on that jet sweep. They need to watch teams/rushers that run it well.

He changed the game for Iowa. I was wondering where he was. Where was the big guy? I was thinking if they don't use him he's going to transfer out. Really glad they figured out they need him.

All of the running backs looked decent today, but thought Young brought it pretty well on his opportunities. Fullback was awful, hope that improves by leaps and bounds.

I thought it was pretty obvious that either the coaches were trying to prove a point to Young to pick it up by not playing him in the first half, or that he was suspended for the first half. I know KF commented that it was just because we didn’t have the ball much in the first half, but I don’t think there is any way he wouldn’t have gotten a touch. They would have made damn sure of it.

I think that they all looked good. Toren benefitted from having fresh legs ... but having the opposing D worn down. It was a pretty good strategy. He definitely offers something a little different than the other two.
I had similar thoughts;was wondering if it was planned to keep the 'bruiser' out until the 2nd half. I guess we'll see if he plays earlier next week.

Looked like the best back out there today. Really have Iowa a spark when they needed it.
Bigger back that broke some tackles. Benefited from the Iowa OL wearing down NIU D a little by the time he came in. I would give Toren the offensive gameball if it were up to me. Was lightning in a bottle today. Over a 10 ypc average.

I think it's a good sign Hawks win 33-7 with their starting MLB, Stanley and Fant having less than stellar days.

DL and safeties were top notch!

TY looked good, and it's obvious he's a different type of back than IKM or Sargent. He can run through and over people, though I agree that it probably helped that the NIU D was wearing down.

I thought Sargent hit the hole hard early in the game when it was there. He definitely belongs and deserves reps. IKM will be solid.

I was slightly underwhelmed with Geil. Looked a little slow penetrating the line, but he's young and will most certainly gain confidence. He's definitely got the build for a B1G RB.

Young was fresh and the Oline was starting to work together much.better.
That been said Young does have very good vision and ran very well

All three Backs looked good. IKM lost yards due to penalties. Not sure how coaches decide who plays each series but no wrong choices

On another note, it was nice to see the Paulson brothers playing and having some success. I don’t think OL depth is as bad as some predicted. kallenberger also looked good when played

What Hawkeyes and Trump have in common this November . . .

Oh brother, please don’t start with this political bullish!t.
This is a hawkeye message board not a platform to express your political crap!

He’s a huuuuge disrespectful embarrassing asshat. If you’re not embarrassed for voting/waste for him yet, it’ll come. Go Hawks by the way, good first game.

Thats kind of like worrying about whether you find your surgeons personality embarrassing.

It's way down the list of things that are relevant to the job. Basically irrelevant.

I like the strategy that played out.

Use your faster quicker, more elusive backs in the early going, tire the defense down a bit.

And the bring in the wrecking ball and watch them trying and tackle Toren Young.

Well played BF. Now let’s get to work on that intermediate passing game.

Toren Young looked good. I do think the fact that his carries came in the 2nd half when the defense had tired some helped.

I think he does run a little high, and if he would run lower closer to the ground it would help him. Young was very powerful but I tend to think Sargent's running style may help him a little more getting tough yards.

Power backs can tend to be at a disadvantage in the off seasons and spring/preseason practices, because you rarely go full go with tackling, so they don’t get to fully show what they can do. I like all 3 of our backs, and we will need them all. IKM already appeared to get dinged up with a foot/ankle in yesterdays game.

Can't go wrong with any of the 3 backs. All are special in their own way. Very excited and encouraged for this group.

Add my voice to position depth and quality at running back. Iowa usually has good backs and a good line and we have both this season. Toren was tearin' his way through the defense. This could be a 2015 like season where we see three guys all playing in a murderous running game.

Yep liked all three backs, i like how they didn't play one the whole darn game. Keep them fresh and keep rotating them unless one really gets a hot hand.

From what I'm hearing about the offensive lines performance yesterday it's looking like we're in a very solid shape from the running game standpoint. Next week we get 2 starters back on the OL and we'll be able to pick and choose at any given time which running back is our go-to guy. It's obvious that the running game will be our strength this year as the unit will continue to gel. Toren has enough strength and speed to make the big home runs similar to Shonn Greene.

I'm like a few others on this board. Don't think the coaches intentionally held him out, just to be fresh in the second half. He must have did something, either in practice or off the field to be sit for a half of game. I don't think they'll do that to Fant, just to save him and be fresh....

Bar none, Young was the best damn back yesterday and he showed it regardless of wearing a team down shit he went out on the field with a m80 up his ass and made the defense from NIll pay dearly .. he’s a bad ass mo fo! They will all be damn good but Young and the restless won the battle from t best back of the day.. IKM was no slouch either . Give him an inch and he will take the mile

As the President of the Toren Young fan club, this thread makes me smile. He is our best back.

Toren reminded me of LeShun Daniels. Yes, high praise for one game, but he is similarly built, he broke tackles and had more speed than you would think.
