As I said in my previous post, Iowa will never become an elite defensive team because they do not spend the time on that end of the court to become one. Their whole emphasis is predicated on the offensive end of the court and has the entire 10 years that Fran has been here and that doesn't appear to ever change any time soon.
If Iowa would slow the game down and limit the amount of shot attempts the opposition gets I guarantee you Iowa's defensive metrics would go down to acceptable levels. That doesn't mean that they would win more games or lose more games but that is not how Fran wants to teach the game so it is what it is.
This coming season if Garza indeed returns, this team could very well be Fran's best team and maybe his best team he has coached, period.
It's experienced, tough, has multiple 3 point shooters, elite free throw shooters and they showed that when motivated can play some defense. Whatever shortcoming they may have on the defensive side of the ball will be offset by a tremendously efficient offense that at times will be unstoppable.
I'm looking forward to seeing a healthy Bohannan, Nunge, & Patrick along with the only consensus all american player returning, Garza, improved Wieskamp, Toussaint, Fredrick, & Connor plus the Murray twins, Ulis, Perkins, and Ogundele....
It should be one L of a season....
