tOSU Lineup

Serious question marks up and down the lineup for the Bucs. They could finish out of the top 5. If Micah can make a healthy cut to 141 that is incredible. Micah's a big kid. Martin will be a tiny 197lber. He doesn't have the build for it like Nick Heflin did. Wonder why he doesn't bump to 184 and have courts bump to 197. Courts has wrestled there before and is a couple inches taller than Martin.

Mark is taller then Kenny and I'd imagine they'd rather have Kenny at 184 instead of 197 because he's placed there and they wouldn't want to ruin chances of him making the podium again by bumping him up

That looks like a 2 finalist (Tomasello, BJordan), 4-5 AA (Courts, DiJullis) team to me. Hunter is a big wildcard with his injury. Finalist? AA? Non-Factor (due to injury)? Even if Hunter wins a NC, it's going to be a hard pull for them to break 100.

I'll do this the visual way:

125:I don't think NATO repeats but gets in the top 4...always going to be a tough out
133:JDJ is hard to predict...Sometimes he looks like an AA, then a 2-2
141:Micah is a wildcard, hard to predict as I haven't seen him wrestle enough, especially down this far. NQ
149:Striebler's injury is a big question mark but if he is healed, I'd say top 5. Still a tough weight class.
157:Not huge credentials for Jake Ryan but it will be interesting to see how good he is. DNQ
165: Admittedly don't know much about Kresivic...DNQ
174:Bo going up kinda sucks because it's such an open weight and he adds an instant shot at winning it all. Still think Alex will be alright.
184: Kenny Courts had a great tourney; that said, I don't think he AA's this year.
197: Sometimes going up a weight helps a guy...Think they are in patchwork mode here without Kyle.
HWY: Tavanello could be a Rd of 12 guy

Much of where they place in the top five is probably going to depend on NATO and Bo. The only way they are a threat is if 1-4 come up huge, Bo and Courts doing something special. Think it comes down to PSU, OSU, and Iowa with maybe Michigan or Cornell adding some hot sauce to the mix.

I agree with you 99% of the time but you are really lowballing Their lineup here.....You may be right and I think everything you say is in the realm of possibility but it seems every prediction is short selling the Wrestler.......I think at least 2 of the 5 pan out...Hunter, Dijulius, Micah, Courts or mark martin....I am not sold on this move by the coach but I can't poo poo on it until I see some results......Champs deserve some respect until some real concrete results start rolling in!!!!

I'm a little more bullish on NATO and Bo than you are. At 125, NATO won B1Gs and NCAAs as a rsFR, not sure why you can't project him with even more room for improvement than the other top guys at the weight - even as a PSU fan, I've got to see him as the #1 guy in the weight. I thought Bo was the #2 guy (took 3rd) at 165 last year and he definitely has the size to go 174 - which is a cleared out weight. I have a hard time objectively picking any guy at these weights over either of the two of them as more likely finalists. Agree on the rest, although Courts is extremely dangerous and I won't count him out to AA at all.

The thing that makes me hesitant to engage in these conversations is this. You never know who is hurt and who is healthy. Courts could have ben hurt in earlier years and then again it may have been Brooks who was hurt. It is hard to say.
It sure seems like with Snyder gone the tOSU has little or no chance of repeating. However, the thing I am looking forward to most this year is seeing how Hunter Steiber does and watching a rematch of Gilman and the kid who beat him at nationals. I think it is going to be similar to what Gilman did to Brancale after that fluke in the dual.

For both MML and Dice, how am I low-balling NATO or the rest of the line-up? I wrote that I don't think NATO repeats but that he ends up in the top 4. Gilman has one loss to him at B1G in all of the times they have wrestled so its not crazy to think that TG, Nico, Dance could take him in the semi's. Here was NATO's path to a title: Deangelo, Willeford, Mines, Waters, Moisey. He got it done when it counted and Gilman (or anybody else) didn't but he had a pretty easy path to the semis.

As for Bo, I gave him instant title shot status...don't think he is unbeatable though.

Didn't think you were lowballing the lineup - in fact I agreed with everything else (except maybe Courts, which I agree in principle, but if I had to make a bet, I would go with him on the podium this year and possibly high). Just said I'm more bullish on NATO and Bo than you - which I am - I think NATO is top 2 and BoJo is my choice to win it all should he stay up at 174. I was mostly agreeing with you - just stating that I'm high on NATO and Bo. I think the fact that NATO won B1Gs and NCAAs as a rsFR is overlooked and he could be making another big step up in level this year. You know I'm a PSU fan, and I'm pretty confident in Nico, but this is the guy who scares me.

I agree with what you said about NATO, I just thought "AT THE TIME" Micah, Courts, Martin and Ryan were a little underrepresented in your comments, that's all. But After Re-reading it the few beers I had was probably hurting my understanding..lol
