tOSU vs Kentucky, Penn State at VCU & DePaul at Northwestern Tomorrow Cancelled; Too Many Within the Programs have COVID

It has to at some point. Society cannot go on like this forever. The majority of people have done everything that was asked of them, yet here we are with crazy mitigation efforts. Some probably want to go more strict than what we are seeing. I'm sure some places will be more strict soon.
You clearly don't live in iowa

I am very well read on covid and the 2 covid variants. It's pretty obvious that you are not; it's also very clear what "news station" you are glued to.

You conveniently have forgotten about the original version of covid and the delta variant and the over 800,000 who have died from covid complications.

You also ignore the fact that hospitals are still being overwhelmed by covid patients.

You also ignore the fact that most of the people hospitalized with covid are unvaccinated.

And you called Covid (and the 2 variants so far that we know about) a glorified cold.

A glorified cold.

Incredible.
You are clearly not informed because instead of sighting actual data you're sighting an anecdotal example.

The data is clear on the fact that people are not dying in any meaningful way from Omicron.

Hospitals are not being overwhelmed.

I called Omicron a glorified cold because the systmptoms for the majority are very similar to a cold.

I haven't watched television news of any kind in years. Its all worthless activism.

Exactly. It’s all about control. Covid has been a boon to the powers-that-be. More power for them. And many Americans are happy to give them more control over their lives.

And before one of you leftist loons jumps in to call me an anti-vax magat…….I am vaxxed and have never voted for Trump. I also had Covid last month.

It's all about control? It's all about power? JFC. Go tell that to the doctors and nurses as they are overwhelmed AGAIN with covid patients.

And most of these CURRENT HOSPITALIZED patients with covid are unvaccinated. Ironic, huh? These dumb asses refused the vaccine treatment but now want treatment at the hospital. It's tood bad they cannot be denied treatment.

And doctors, nurses, most people and I don't give a damn about anyone's politics. Lets just use some damn common sense and do what's right and get vaccinated.

by this point everyone knows the risks. i don't understand (actually, i do) why some people are so uptight and condescending towards people wishing to not get vaccinated. so what if they don't? they know the risks and the probabilities, probably better than those who blindly got the vaccine. if they come into contact with you or anyone else with the vaccine then you should be protected from the worst of the possible outcomes. the vaccine won't keep you from contracting the virus, so what difference does it make if you get an infection from a vaccinated person or an unvaccinated person? both groups are getting the virus and both are passing it on. if you're vaccinated you should be protected from severe symptons regardless, so why all the hand wringing and panty bunching over some who choose not to get the shot?

Are you aware that hospitals are filling up AGAIN with covid patients and that doctors and nurses are burned out?

Are you aware that most of these hospitalized covid patients are not vaccinated?

If you are not aware, why not?

And if you aware, you are a selfish bastard.

And you ask why some people are so uptight and condescending towards people wishing to not get vaccinated?

JFC.

You are clearly (and sadly) uneducated on this topic.

To educate yourself, I suggest you go to the Associated Press, which is a FREE, trusted news source. Link: https://apnews.com/

Instead of listening to scientists and medical doctors, you have clearly made this political. This is what you wrote, after all: We need to be terrified of a glorified cold and oblivious to our lack of a border.

You said omicron is a glorified cold. Wrong. If you were actually well read on this topic, you would know that omicron contains dozens of mutations that make it harder for antibodies to attack it. You would also know that the 2 standard drugs they’ve used to fight covid infections are unlikely to work against omicron.

You said hospitals are not being overwhelmed. Wrong again.

But you are at least consistent; we can expect a lot of false statements in your posts.

From this ONE story from TODAY from the Associated Press:

* Strained U.S. hospitals are bracing for a new surge of COVID-19 cases caused by the fast-spreading omicron variant.

* The 2 standard drugs they’ve used to fight covid infections are unlikely to work against the new strain, omicron, which contains dozens of mutations that make it harder for antibodies to attack the virus. And while the companies that manufacture these drugs say they can quickly develop new omicron-targeting antibodies, those aren’t expected to launch for at least several months.

* A 3rd antibody from British drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline appears to be the best positioned to fight omicron. But Glaxo’s drug is not widely available in the U.S. U.S. health officials are now rationing scarce drug supplies to states. The drug is being distributed to states based on their levels of infections and hospitalizations.

* “We’re certainly going to see hospitalizations rise,” said Dr. James Cutrell of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. “If we have a lack of antibodies that’s certainly going to contribute to that many more patients needing to be in the hospital.

* The delta variant still accounts for more than 95% of estimated U.S. cases. But agency leaders say omicron is spreading faster than any past variant and will become the dominant strain nationwide within weeks.

* The shrinking toolbox of treatments is a painful reminder that the virus still has the upper hand in the U.S., even with more than 200 million Americans fully vaccinated.

* Scientists around the world are racing to understand omicron, including whether it causes more or less severe disease and how easily it evades protection from prior infection, vaccination, and antibody drugs.

In So Africa and UK, many of the patients in hospital are being admitted WITH Omicron, not FROM Omicron and respiratory disease.

that Said, Omicron is 70x the transmissible rate, so there is going to by exponentially larger number of patients

fortunately, omicron is affecting the Broncus and not lung tissue, so the cytokine storm caused by over reaction will not be directed into the lungs and alveoli that results in Breathing failure,

my covid 19 in day #4 , totally limited to broncus, and sinus cold, so this tells me Omicron and not delta…

FWIW from the real World .

BTW, the AP is considered a left leaning outlet…

Last thought for today is that SoAfrica omicron cases is above any point in entire pandemic

Hospitalizations are still stable, haven’t increasesd.

this is a really good sign , in which we are seeing that Omicron is not over whelming hospitals,

recall that SA only has a 25% of its population is vaxxed.

“…The shrinking toolbox of treatments is a painful reminder that the virus still has the upper hand in the U.S., even with more than 200 million Americans fully vaccinate….” -AP News…

im curious to know exactly what this means?

but this could mean that if you put all of your hopes in the vaccines, and you now see that they really aren’t vaccines that give you immunity (like other vaccines ) but give you a degree of protection from acutely negative outcomes, but also the despair in that you aren’t really protected and you may never be as covid RNA is so unstable it mutates constantly.

if you look at other strategies employed by thousands of doctors thru out the world, you will see many cost effective efficacy strategies, you will see many safe strategies being employed everywhere where medical discourse is allowed.

The tool box of therapies has never been greater…

the AP News out let is not the respected AP outlet we knew growing up…

easy, chief. i'm fully vaccinated... go direct your holier than thou ire somewhere else.

Rutgers game yesterday was cancelled in the AM for a 5pm game due to 2 RU players testing positive. We played SHU last Sunday & it seems they knew Thursday they had a covid issue. Quite possible we got it from them. Our next game is Thursday night so that is up.in the air right now because of CDC recommended quarantine.

RU is not checking for vax card but is requiring masks to enter the arena, although wearing them in your seat is not enforced. ..and they certainly didn't tell the 1000 students that rushed the court vs Purdue to put them on.

NYC requires vax cards for everything... restaurants, bars, arenas, Broadway....and they are shutting things down anyway.

The entire Iowa team and staff are vaccinated so I believe the protocol is that no one has to get tested for covid unless that person has symptoms. Is RU fully vaccinated? If so, did the 2 RU players have symptoms, where they then were required to have a covid test?

On a side note: Remember late spring/early summer when we thought we would be getting back to normal, for the most part? That was before we found out that 40% of the country had no intention of getting vaccinated. So, here we are.

As usual, I Agree with most but would challenge that there is nothing we can do to change the trajectory,

1. Educate the public on the value of D-3 sufficiencies. Dispense D3 to all.
2. Therapeutics. Make FDA approved therapeutics available to all, discontinue the prohibition of prescribing these.

these 2 alone will work,
(I am living proof)
symptoms gone.
60 hours after Friday night CoVid Dx, and immeadiaely hydroychloriquine + Z PAC

as detailed earlier, significant and increasing symptoms Wed-Friday are nearly gone 60 hours after beginning HCQ.

although i was vaxxed, I still got the virus and was suffering significant symptoms, the worst being a nasty productive upper respiratory cough.

did the vaccine prevent. No
did it prevent significant and progressively worsening symptoms. no.

8 hours after intervention with HCQ C Zpac, symptoms showed remarkable decrease , mind blowing in its speed and effectiveness. ( I can only relate it to going to bed with a terrible sinus head cold, taking a pill, and waking up in the am with your head cold gone. It was that dramtic)

im a believe in the n of 1 example that HCQ works incredibly well.
but my results are right in line with these 32 studies that show HCQ decrease hospitalization and death by 64%.

i much happier to say that I took HCQ and am part of the pool in this group of 32 studies
than the 800,000 Americans who would weren’t given HCQ (at on set) and have died

Also, a lesson in taking responsibility for your own health outcomes.
(a note is that I’ve spent 15 yrs in infectious viral diseases, so I had a bit of a head start on my baseline knowledge base)

How did you get the meds...did a doctor prescribe those?

Personally, if I tested positive I'd be hammering on my doctor to get monoclonal antibodies asap.

there are a few courageous MDs that will prescribe. Look for a conservative practice not associated with the large IDNs

CVS, Walgreens, Wallmart, won’t fulfill, (why would they, they are making millions on CoVid testing)

you need to find an MD that will prescribe and they will know of Pharmacy that will fulfil.

MCA may not work vs Omicron as they are designed with AB to delta and not the 36 or som mutations in the Omicron

in my view, it’s medical malpractice that this FDA approved , safe, meds are not allowed to be prescribed by practicing MDs,

here is the literature that supports if your interestEd.

can i ask the doctors and nurses that lost their jobs due to refusing the mandate? lol nice try.

hmm maybe if they didn't enact nazi type mandates, they wouldn't have the healthcare staffing problems they have at the moment.

Thanks, but I will still push for the monoclonal antibodies, as Delta is deadly and it works for that. They do not test for variant, so if it's Omicron hopefully it's milder as has been reported. I am at a Mayo clinic, and will follow my doctor's advice while strongly requesting early treatment. I am double vaxxed J&J and plan to ask for a second (moderna) booster soon.

Totally agree that MAB is the gold standard for therapeutics…go for It if you get access and have where with all to pay.

the HCQ option cost $110 bucks, and can be taken at home…

this shows without question that there are multiple treatment option,

and that the Vax only thinking is in error…

are you at Mayo for treatment?
or work there? (I’ve been there dozens of dozens of times)

All students/staff at RU are required to be vaccinated. I have not heard anything to the contrary regarding any of the athletic department.
They just cancelled/postponed our Thursday night game vs Central Connecticut.

I know a lot of people who are vaccinated, but not boostered, who have gotten Covid in the past 2 months. Most of them were pretty sick..think bad flu symptoms. I don't know any boostered people who have gotten Covid.

Edit: just got word that all in person meetings/classes in campus have been made mandatory virtual 7ntil January 31, 2022. This *currently* does not affect Athletics 😕. Here we go again.

did your 2 players have symptoms, which triggered the covid tests? and once they tested positive, did that trigger the whole team getting tested? Just curious what the protocols are

i don't agree having RU classes going virtual if the students are all vaccinated

unfortunately, i also know of some elderly people who are vaccinated, got covid and got really sick. they are fine now and the vaccine saved them.

this just really, really sucks.....

There has been no info about the 2 players.

I'm guessing that because SHU players were diagnosed with covid mid-week after we played them, our players were tested out of an abundance of caution.

I honestly don't know what the testing protocols are currently.

Edit: @Franisdaman I checked with our Rivals mods. RU is following NCAA protocols . Link to the protocols here:

I think we're having a disconnect on the meaning of data.

Data means numbers.

Im challenging you to site death and hospitalization statistics on Omicron that back up what you're saying and disagree with my statements.

You won't be able to because those numbers don't exist.

In places where infection rates have risen in the last month due to Omicron , (South Africa, UK and New York) death rates have remained virtually unchanged.

Seak out the actual data don't take people's word for it.

Last Friday i had progressively worsening and significant upper respiratory infection. Started treatment began Friday night with HydroxyChloroquine and Z PAC.

Today, 96 hours later, All symptoms have cleared. Early therapeutic intervention with anti virals worked.
its medical malpractice that the current US government prohibits these life saving therapeutics.

godspeed to you and your mother…

i am not sure if it ever ends, to be quite honest.
It’s hysterical to ponder this. It ends, sooner rather than later, by the variants dying out or people just moving on. Honestly, the fact that fully vaccinated and/or boosted Americans have to change their lives AT ALL is insane at this point, especially considering it’s (a minority of) those folks pushing for regulations to help people who refuse the vaccine. Let them fend for themselves.

It will end like all pandemics, with herd immunity,

RNA is highly unstable and viral RNA will continue to mutate becuse of this

the vaccines aren’t really traditional vaccines and only offer a degree of protection.

for example, vaxxed people shed the virus just as much as un vaxxed people, and this will continue over time.

natural immunity protects one against the entire set of new antigens from an new variant, while vaxed only protects against a subset of the total universe of variants.

if we rely solely on vaccines, we will always be chasing the latest set of mutations,

why do we not discuss natural immunity? Therapeutics? and biological prevention? Like the rest of the world does?

So what? You get all of your "news" on the internet? No biased activism there, right?
No "news" is capable of being unbiased because everyone has built in biases.

When they insist they are unbiased is when you know they are intentionally dishonest.

I love how key info is eliminated from tweets like this.

He states that 44% of covid related deaths in Minnesota are breakthrough deaths.

But what are the ages of those who were vaccinated yet still had a breakthrough infection and died?

It's pretty clear that:

* The vaccines work and help prevent hospitalizations or worse (death).

* The elderly are still the most vulnerable, even when fully vaccinated.

And he claims the vaccines are failing.

What a crock of manure.
You are clueless and obviously are a very selective reader. Have spoken with two ICU Nurses and their story was the same. The vast majority of cases are coming from the vaccinated. You may want to research Dr. Robert Malone and get his take on the vaccine.
