tough loss

Like I said in the game thread - we're thin, hurt, and tired. Third game in six days agains high-quality opponents.

I suspect we beat WI in their home court in Feb. I think we'll be pissed, rested, and well-armed. None of which we were tonight...

The amount of turnovers was surprising. We've been so good all year at making sure to maximize shots and live with the results. Fumbled balls, throwing it at teammates' faces, bad passes up court getting intercepted. Felt like we had 20 turnovers tonight. Bad. We win easily with 20 extra shots. Wisky couldn't make a 3 to save their life in regulation.

Wahl acted like a road win in Carver was some big accomplishment.
I don't care if it's northwestern. A B1G road win is a hard thing to get, and worth it's weight in gold.

I'm honestly surprised Gard allows that kind of BS. It always comes back to bite you.

We'll see that douche again in Madison.

Its not that surprising given how few ball handlers we had available or played. Perkins is not a point guard. And PMac is not a great ball handler, those were absolutely killer turnovers (PMac only had one, but a critical one) credit to wisconsin.

Our offense had minimal rhythm and we were forced into a half court game without 2 starters. Ugh.

Availability is always important in sports. During the past 20 years where Wisconsin has been really good in basketball, the Badger program has had very few injuries. Given a 20 year stretch of consistent good health, it is beyond saying they are lucky.

Dudes looked gassed in OT and hence, couldn’t get a stop.

Frustrating AF but couple get right games and an opportunity for one or two conference road W’s. Need to get healthy.

Every loss is tough, only 7 more losses in the remaining 22 games left on the schedule and Fran is on par with every year he's been at Iowa. Nothing like consistency to predict how a season will pan out.

No home cooking at all from the refs, down a likely all conference player and another starter, Sandfort not being able to hit the broad side of a barn and we still took them to OT and had every chance to win that game. Wisconsin is just the luckiest team ever it seems like. Wahl needs punched in the face and I hope we take it to them in Madison

No defense along with two huge turnovers in the final minute. And neither were due to heavy pressure.
I could wrong here…but it always seems to me Iowa just has turnovers late in games and in big spots like those two late ones in OT. It’s like it’s Hawkeye Basketball DNA at this point. Tough loss.

Gutsy defensive performance, but when Connor becomes your go to guy, you know Fran was desperate for offense. Connor is playing great basketball, and Patrick might have had the best game I have seen him play. It seemed like we were staying in the game with smoke and mirrors, but that is what playing tough defense and rebounding can do. Tony let the Wisky players get into his head a few times, but still made plays. Rebraca was solid. Payton's shooting really hurt the Hawks tonight. Bowen needs to learn from playing against guys who will beat you any way they can, even though they have less pure talent. I guess that is also a form of talent, which Wisky players seem to have year after year.

I think finding some scoring and playing well without Kris will actually help him and the team in the long run.
Look for sandfort to bust out when Kris comes back. Just a prediction.

All those pining for Bowen to get more minutes saw tonight why he’s ceding minutes to a healthy Ulis. Is Bowen the more skilled hooper? Absolutely. And he’s gonna be great Hawkeye when it’s all said and done. But Ahron is a tough, strong defender and big time rebounder at the guard spot even when he’s not bringing it offensively. Dasonte was a ghost tonight offensively, and not strong enough to absorb contact on the drive on offense + gets moved off his spots on defense. He lost multiple 50/50 balls on rebounds and loose balls

Additionally, we need to have a PG other than Perkins on the floor. TP is at his best off the ball when he can catch and has momentum to drive into the lane or catch and shoot. Ulis being out was a sneaky big loss tonight (not to mention Kris) and the veteran Hepburn took advantage for Wisconsin - especially defensively

Another thing: I really liked what I saw from Dix tonight. He is a solid defender and rebounder, calm presence, and takes what the defense gives him. He’s also more athletic than Sandfort and better equipped to play the two spot long term. Here’s a take: I actually thought that Fran should have stuck with Dix in OT alongside Perkins, Connor, Pat, and Rebraca instead of giving the minutes to Payton. JMO

*Pining for bowen to get more minutes in a blowout win, to get him some much needed experience and rest some other guys.
Seems like those of us questioning that move may have been right

I wasn’t even talking about specifically after the ISU game. Since the TCU game and culminating in the Duke one, people have been calling for him to take more and more minutes from Ulis. Ulis is the better player right now

I think Bowen was uncomfortable with the Badger brand of slow ball,.. It's definitely not something anyone enjoys on first exposure,.. More like something you get familiar with and learn to hate,.. Ulis would have helped this game a lot.
