Tournament Scoring Question

While I was entering the Pac 12 match results for the 1st round, I noticed that the Pac 12 Team Standings were showing much higher point totals, per team than I showed on my site.

My question is, when team standings are updated, do they factor in the placement points as matches go along for the "worst case scenario"?

For example, If a wrestler is waiting for his finals match, do they award the team the 2nd place placement points even if he hasn't wrestled his finals match yet? Then, if he wins, they just tack on the additional 5 points for 1st place?

If that's NOT the case, then does the Pac 12 use a different team scoring model?

placement points are added to team scores as you advance throughout the tournament.

If you make the semis you get 6th place points cause that is the worst you can place. Make the finals 2nd place points awarded.

Ok, next question. I've got all of the results entered for the Pac 12 tournament (not good when the website owner wins his own pool!!!) and my team totals are different from what the Pac 12 shows for the final results.

Example: they show Oregon State winning with 139.5 team points. I show Oregon State winning with 167.5 team points.

If you JUST used the placement points, I show Oregon State should have 136. Obviously including all of the advancement and bonus points gets that number to the 167.5. But why does the Pac 12 show 139.5

Oregon State - 5 1st finishes = (16 * 5) 80 + 3 2nd place (12 * 3) 36 + 2 3rd place (10 * 2) 20 = 136.

Where is the discrepancy here?

Here's Pac 12 results: http://pac-12.com/article/2015/03/01/2015-pac-12-wrestling-championships-team-standings

Here's my results: http://www.wrestlestats.com/TourneyPool/TeamStandings/7/pac-12-championships/9 (not sure if this link will work for people that aren't in the group...)

Placement points are different based on how many places are awarded.

Per the NCAA rulebook...

8 places: 16-12-10-9-7-6-4-3
6 places: 12-10-9-7-6-4
4 places: 10-7-4-2

Recalculate your figures based on the "6 places" list, since the Pac-12 only has 6 teams, and I bet you get close.

Also, conferences can tweak the scoring system. The Big 12 uses 10-6-3-0 instead of 10-7-4-2. That way, the guy who goes 0-2 and finishes 4th doesn't earn any team points.
