They could jump on Carson and silence him whenever he opened his mouth to speak. Might be worth the expense.
I'm for it. I think all declared major candidates should receive protection. Remember Bobby Kennedy .
Looks like Carson's days of being a badass started and ended in KFC. So much for him being able to take out killers all be himself.

If they're getting Secret Service protection, the worry of being shot comes from the left, not the right.
When Barack got SS protection, the left was worried about all the right-wing violence against a Democratic candidate. Same holds true for this argument.

I'm not against the idea, but shouldn't the guy who claims he is so rich he can't be bought, can do whatever he wants, etc., be thinking he can hire better security than that offered by the government?
I wouldn't assume the left would take out Trump or Carson. The left might jump in front of a shooter to save those two, they are a gift to the left. Bush or the establishment GOP is the far more likely shooter IMO.

The SS is the best at what it does. Plus if you're a front-running candidate, I believe they "qualify" for protection. Hillary should be afforded the same protection and she's a multi-millionaire.
In Trump's case, with his current pissing match going on with Jeb, I think he's worried Jeb's superpac might have a couple of enforcers that will be looking to "bust up some knees".

Who gains from killing either? Not the left, the left loves those clowns. Heck Trump has some policies more liberal than Sanders on trade. If they have fears it's from your team.

Now I'll re-write it so that even you can understand: Trump claims to be an "outsider", supremely rich, can buy anything/everything he wants, and doesn't need the government, they need him. Those are, basically, all HIS claims...not mine. If he believes that, it stands to reason he wouldn't then rely on government to protect himself.
The only people that would "gain" from this would be a whack job. And lately, the only whack jobs are from the left. Well, minus you, of course.
But anyone that tries to take out a presidential candidate is obviously crazy regardless of who they try to take out.
OK. I'll try and break it down for YOU. I believe there is a FEDERAL law that requires SS protection for presidential front-runners. I'm unsure of the requirements, but there's probably nothing Trump can do about it since it's a federal law.

Aaaaaannnnnnd……why? Federal law is federal law when it comes to protection for leading presidential candidates. Again, the requirements escape me, but if the SS is getting involved, then there has to be some sort of law that dictates when they start protecting. They just don't do it willy nilly.

The OP says they asked for it. No post in here discussed it as a requirement, certainly none of yours did. The discussion was over the OP: Thoughts? It seems early without a lot of verified threats. Trump probably wants it for legitimacy as he travels with a band of goons wherever he goes for protection.

Trump and Carson would be the two current high profile candidates that would guarantee a Hillary Clinton presidency.
I mentioned Trump's goons because Trump is notoriously fervent about his personal space. He likes his personal security team, and I wonder if he'd chafe at Secret Service rules? Would he want his personal team to be point, and Secret Service support them?
Would the taxpayers pay for Trump's protection even though a lot of what he is still doing is personal business with the Trump empire, and it's almost impossible to draw a line between Trump the candidate and Trump the businessman.

I believe Obama got secret service protection at about this time.
I saw in the news this morning Carson was saying that the secret service contacted him about getting a detail on the basis that they had received threats.
I don't think it's a good idea to judge what candidates and the secret service do to protect them.
If for some reason a major candidate gets injured or killed in an assassination attempt then everyone will be asking why they didn't have a detail. And things things have happened during primary campaigns. Bobby Kennedy and George Wallace for example.
Not worth risking it.
