NOT Authoritarian at all, right? You checks and balances guys...you good with this or are we still burying our heads in the sand?

"His plan, known as “impoundment,” threatens to provoke a major clash over the limits of the president’s control over the budget. The Constitution gives Congress the sole authority to appropriate the federal budget, while the role of the executive branch is to dole out the money effectively. But Trump and his advisers are asserting that a president can unilaterally ignore Congress’ spending decisions and “impound” funds if he opposes them or deems them wasteful."

Nobody gives a damn? Nobody want to disagree with this plan?
Poor Tom - Nobody cares for his party of sadness outrage.

The f'n NCGOP is doing just the opposite...they lost their supermajority so in the final days of this session, they're stripping the incoming Dem governor of as much power as they can before the veto means something.

Why do you think I voted for a radical California leftist?

Trump only respects democracy when it goes his way. He is a sick human being and not in the realm of normal. It is unfortunate how many people are either blind to that or don’t care.
That you can look at Kamala Harris and call her a "radical leftist" is 99% of the problem. Too many Americans are unmoored from political reality.

Tom,

Impoundment has been a longstanding issue between President and the Congress, dating back to at least Nixon. Nixon lost that one for the executive While I think where we are "today" (more legislative primacy due to the impoundment legislation) is about right, to be clear, there is at least a fair question about whether an executive must spend what is appropriated, and perhaps more clearly, whether the legislature can compel spending (rather than simply earmark it) without encroaching on executive discretion in impleentatoin. Personally, i hope we retain the legislative primacy, whether in spending or in substantive lawmaking. Bt if we have to have some litigation over some particular spending program, so be it. it's part of the process.

But just to be clear, if you are concerned about the executive usurping legislative decisions as I am, you should also love things like loper bright and the major questions doctrine (not to mention a reduction in the size of the executive branch), and you should hate things like the Biden administration's proposal today to 'reinterpret' the statutory prohibition on medicare coverage for 'agents when used for weight loss" to mean that medicare must cover such 'agents' in cases of obesity.

He's starting to sound like this guy

Didn't he do something similar in his first term? IIRC, he diverted funds allocated to the military and redirected them to build some of his wall.

This sounds like more of the same, probably on a much bigger scale.

What's less clear is how he plans to redirect the impounded funds to his donors this time around. I assume that's the aim.

A politician. Do you honestly regard HER as a "radical leftist"? If so, what the hell do you call someone like Noam Chomsky (also not radical but certainly much further to the left than Harris)?
Compared to the far, far extreme left, perhaps not. But she is pretty far left.

Perhaps “radical” was a bit harsh, but my greater point was not to unfairly label Kamala as it was to emphasize even someone’s politics I largely disagree with couldn’t compel me to vote for Trump. That’s how terrible Trump is.

I mean, if we are done using the Constitution as the basis for our government can we quit spending so much money protecting it in the Library of Congress? What's the point?
i think it's in the National Archives, not the Library of Congress, for those keeping score at home.

You are right. I actually don't think much is kept at the actual Library of Congress, now that I think about it. Most books and film and other media are kept at other buildings I think. Anyway, it's still kept in bomb proof case that will fall something like 50 feet underground in the event of a nuclear war.

The problem is your original take is accepted default among many Americans. I'm not even sure what "far left" positions she supposedly holds.

Waiting for @FAUlty Gator and @binsfeldcyhawk2 to chime in to either apologize for being wrong for years or to tell us how this isn't authoritarianism, or no big deal. Again, you guys want checks and balances and Trump 100% wants to blow that up. Project 2025, or that famous red herring, wants to blow the Constitution up. I'm waiting for the both sides guys to start getting pissed off about what's about to happen to their country.

Oh, I thought you were joking about the 'Far Left' part. What policies of hers that she ran on in 2024, would you find as far left? Personally, I think she was a middle of the road, even moderate democrat.

Her record in the senate says otherwise.

Regardless, the point was not to characterize Kamala a certain way. It was to draw a sharp contrast in how much of a piece of shit I think Trump is.

Well Tom, if Trump tries to do that he’ll be challenged in the courts.

Like how Biden was challenged in the courts over student loan relief.

Deep breaths buddy.

That gif gets funnier every time you use it. Can't wait for you to break it out next week for the 11th time & expect raucous laughter!
Do it just for you babe. Do you think Traore should start over Dembele? I doubt you watch enough sports to have an opinion on the matter.

Oh that's a good one! I know you have to stick up for scruddy and jimstarr because they aren't able to answer that question. I commend you for trying your own content for a change, even though you use it over & over. We both know Trey Parker would think you're a little bitch.
