Trump preparing executive order telling education secretary to dissolve Department of Education: Sources

Good, the department of education has been an unmitigated disaster and
has not improved a single facet of academic performance since it was created in 1979.

It is quite literally the record holder for the most failed federal agency in U.S. history, and that's saying something given the record of the federal government.

1 trillion dollars to lower our education ranking globally by 37 points seems like an obvious L.
The unlimited bureaucracy crowd does not want to hear this. Sometimes it is ok to admit something either didn't work or hold almost no value. Give the money to the states.

My alma mater paid Elizabeth Warren several hundred thousand a year to teach a single class. She never actually taught said class and had a grad assistant do the actual work, of course.

How about the same school paying a known fraud/plagiarism several hundred thousand a year AFTER FIRING HER FOR FRAUD?! She was terminated and is still being paid because DEI.

Just a few examples from Harvard to get you started.

I didn't know you were a fellow Harvard man! Nice to see that around here.

Speaking of record holders — Arnold Palmer holds the record for biggest dick on the PGA Tour.

Just another case that will go all the way to the SCOTUS, and another loss for CORRUPT THUMPYT.

Many programs established by the Department of Education are already administered by the states. For instance, Perkins Grants. This is a federal program that is implemented by the states. It is used to purchase equipment for CTE programs, career technical education programs.

I’m one of those professors with an exorbitant salary. Let’s go with this. I have a masters degree. I left a job outside the college to come here and teach. At that job, I’m 2012, I was making around 75k a year. Basically the same benefits I get now. I’m certain the person filling that job is now making 100ish.

How much should I be making? What’s fair? Again the college is competing against departments paying 100k.

I make 92k. Is that exorbitant? I have to have a masters degree. I have to have experience. Tell me if that’s exorbitant.

I will patiently wait for Northerns response.

This is bullshit. She taught one class each semester, which is normal. She certainly did not have a TA teach it. That’s not how law school works.

Professors are hired and paid for their writing. She was one of the most cited professors in both securities regulation and bankruptcy.

Anything to cut taxes for the wealthy. Make public schools worse than they already are while the rich send their kids to the finest private schools.

The top 1% would privatize everything if they could. Plus, this keeps the poor/middle class dumb, uneducated and easier to control.

The Republicans and specifically Bonespurs have told us of their desire to keep the good ol' USA dumb. Works in their favor. They love the dumb and uneducated. Their voters obviously prove that.

FWIW DOE only has 4400 employees. Smallest federal department.

$268B budget
Well those employees aren't making $20 million a year if that is what you are implying. But a lot of kids have the opportunity to get an education because of it.

Oh, your take is it was totally on the up and up IF she showed up to teach one class a week for over 400 grand a year in compensation?

She taught a contracts section. She wasn’t teaching once a week. And the $400k is because she had an endowed chair. She got that because her of her writing.

Nope. Just was interested in the size and scope of the department and thought I’d share. Seemed relevant to the conversation.

Return education to the states who did a significantly better job with it than the federal government has managed to do.
When did educating get taken away from the states and made a responsibility of the govt? Every state I know of controls their own education.

Dems singlehandedly killing our global science testing/ranking.
This is hilarious, coming from the party that doesn't believe in global warming, vaccines, think wind energy kills birds and causes cancer, ask you to drink bleach to combat a virus, yep, eliminate the dept of education... yep...keep them stupid is the Republican's mantra. They don't need them no book learnin'...

Then you might want to include all of the things money is spent on, not just the number of employees. Otherwise it makes it look like you are trying to make some fake political point.

Glad I could give you something in that list that is supposed to be accurate. It's a shame you also believe all the other Bonesours/Fox News lies. So sad. Get out of the trailer court sometime scruffy, get into the real world, your brain might explode but it also may be better.

Do you believe the students were paying for her position as part of their tuition? Or was the state or federal government funding her position? Was it money from the Dept of Education? Or was it possibly an endowed chair?

I know you are a Harvard man already, so that doesn't ahve to be a part of your answer. You are worse than cross-fitters mentioning the BS alumni angle on that. I'd be able to claim MIT, Michigan, Stanford and a couple others if that was they way it's done.

Sure you would 😂

More like Iowa Western

That shows you how disproportionately hard this is going to hit red states.
A lot of kids in rural Iowa will be affected. That budget supports teachers in rural Iowa. A friend of mine works to give gifted kids a shot at a college education via a federal grant. She's cutting staff and getting ready to tell kids there is no money of them. It was all fun and games when it was just about saving girls sports and hunting down brown people. Kim Reynolds isn't going to use our massive surplus to help her constituents out.

No,.. The executive order directs the Secretary of Education to develop a plan to dissolve the federal department of education,.. Final plan would need to be approved by Congress.
And the funding the House already approved.
