Donald Trump’s habit of retweeting his followers has once again stirred up controversy.

The GOP presidential front-runner proudly highlighted early Sunday morning a striking quote attributed to him by a Twitter user: "It is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep.”

But that quote is actually attributed to fascist Italian dictator Benito Mussolini.

Indeed, the username of the Trump follower who brought the quote to the billionaire businessman’s attention — @ilduce2016 — gives a clue that he might be an admirer of the former Axis leader, as does his use of a composite image of Mussolini with Trump’s iconic hairstyle for his Twitter avatar.

Followers called Mussolini "Il Duce," or "the leader," during his time in power. And this isn't the first time Trump has attracted attention by highlighting a tweet tied to a World War II fascist.

In November, he generated headlines by retweeting an edited image of former Republican rival Jeb Bush near a swastika.

Earlier this year, he deleted a retweet after its author — @WhiteGeoniceTM — was found to be a supporter of the American Nazi Party.

Who the quote is from is moot, it's what the quote is that matters. I am sure Hitler had made very applicable quotes that if said by nearly anyone else wouldn't be demonized.

Let's break down this quote: I'd rather live as a lion for one day than live as sheep for 100 years.

So, a single day as a killer would be better than living to be slaughtered, except you don't because a sheep will die of natural causes long before it lived to be 100 years old.

Deep.

How does a CEO and leading POTUS candidate have time to goof around on twatter?
It is a good question that the media fails to ask. He has on numerous occasions shot out untrue or questionable taste tweets, and he never gets called on it. If he is indeed the one doing the tweeting, and not an aide, then someone needs to ask what is temperament is, and does he stop and think before shooting out messages. Does that indicate something about his ability to make decisions? Someone also might ask if you have time for all of that how will you solve Syria or get Mexico to pay for your wall?

of course he never gets called on it, the tweets are cool. What we want. What we live for.

My father really has a strong dislike for Mussolini. I heard him say more negative things regarding Mussolini growing up than he ever did about Hitler.
He was stationed in S. Italy during 1944 and maybe "saw" more of Mussolini's work first hand. I don't know really as dad seldom if ever talked about his WW2 days...he was a B-24 pilot and flew his 50 missions and came home. But I can remember talking bad things about Benito.

Poppy Harlow just qualified it on CNN as well, it was a retweet. WTF does that matter, Poppy?

No, it isn't. Who says something and what context they say it in matters a whole lot.
Why does it matter who said it? The words alone are very good.

"Impossible is a word found only in the dictionary of fools" ~Napoleon.

Trump is an idiot but this is no big deal. When asked Trump should have said, Mussolini loved red wine too. Is that off limits?

Well, did the red wine invade other countries and repress it's own citizens?
Some people are trying really hard tonight to make a point that isn't there. Or, they are unaware of history and stuff.

Did a lion or sheep?

And yes, I understand you'll get your panties in a wad because you'll say context. What context was Mussolini using it in? When was it from?

Well, we are all waiting. Please let us know the date he said this and under what benevolent context.

Yeah...I know they are. Did Lions or sheep invade other countries? Who are you suggesting are trying to make points that aren't there? The ones pretending that because he said a quote by Mussolini he is Mussolini... or the ones ones who say it really isn't a big deal? I know the correct answer.

I think it would awesome to be a Lion. You have a whole pride of lionesses to mate with and they do all the hunting. Sounds like quite the life.

Well you die after 24 hours in this scenario. You might be better off being a fruit fly.

I don't know what meltdown is going to be better if Trump wins the presidency, the Democrat meltdown or the Rino meltdown. I'm going to vote for the guy just because I very much want to see this meltdown competition.

I don't think there's going to be a huge meltdown on the Republican side, at least on here. Most of the people who post in these threads refuse to be wrong or be on the "losing" side. They'll all say they loved Trump or that he is the best option.

If Trump can make the trains run on time, what is the problem?
