Former president Donald Trump said Friday that Jewish leaders who have criticized him for dining last month with guests who’ve espoused antisemitic views should be “ashamed of themselves.”
In a post on Truth Social, his social media platform, Trump attached a piece written by Wayne Allyn Root for Gateway Pundit that defended Trump in the wake of the dinner at his Mar-a-Lago estate with white nationalist Nick Fuentes and the rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West.
Root, who is Jewish, wrote that Trump, during his presidency, did “more for the state of Israel and the Jewish people than anyone in history,” and argued that the media is slandering Trump for a dinner with an “acquaintance” (Ye) and a “stranger” (Fuentes).
“Thank you Wayne — You are great but how quickly Jewish Leaders forgot that I was the best, by far, President for Israel,” Trump wrote in the post. “They should be ashamed of themselves. This lack of loyalty to their greatest friends and allies is why large numbers in Congress, and so many others, have stopped giving support to Israel.”
The dinner came just a week after Trump’s 2024 campaign kickoff and has been criticized by many Republicans, including former vice president Mike Pence.
