President-elect Donald Trump has stunned lawmakers in Washington by calling for the suspension — or outright elimination — of the federal borrowing limit, introducing an explosive new demand into last-minute negotiations over averting a government shutdown this weekend.
In social media posts and interviews on Wednesday and Thursday, Trump called on congressional Republicans to lift the debt ceiling, a law that limits how much money the federal government can borrow.

So we’re not cutting spending. Or at least enough to offset more tax cuts.

Our current budget deficit is 1.83 trillion dollars per year,.. We could cut spending to the point that you were literally in tears, and the debt ceiling would still be in play...

Oh course he has. His administration is going to be the greatest grift in American history. Trump is going to take billion$.

But Kamala didn't do many interviews for a time period during her candidacy, so it's okay for Trump to make a ton of money while POTUS

Trump’s transition is happening over private emails

Federal officials say they’re worried about sharing documents via email with Donald Trump’s transition team because the incoming officials are eschewing government devices, email addresses and cybersecurity support, raising fears that they could potentially expose sensitive government data.

The private emails have agency employees considering insisting on in-person meetings and document exchanges that they otherwise would have conducted electronically, according to two federal officials granted anonymity to discuss a sensitive situation. Their anxiety is particularly high in light of recent hacking attempts from China and Iran that targeted Trump, Vice President-elect JD Vance and other top officials.

It's different when it's Trump. When Trump does it, he's giving the middle finger to the swamp, throwing all government norms aside, and being a trail blazer. When any Democrat does something, they're the deep state, and attempting to **** over America.

I just assume China and other bad actors know everything. These jackoffs have no intent to comply with the most basic rules and standards for an administration. It’s going to be a complete free for all for four years.

The debt ceiling is a bad thing. Getting rid of it is a good idea. Let's not oppose it just because Trump likes it.

Many Dems and most lefties have favored ditching the debt ceiling for years. It was always the Rs that stood in the way.

Sure, Trump probably wants to ditch it so he can cut taxes without having to get permission to borrow. But just because Trump may want to get rid of it for nefarious reasons doesn't mean we should fight to keep it.

Instead, let's do the right thing and get rid of the debt ceiling. And then do our best in the usual way to block bad R ideas.

He wants it done now so he doesn’t have to take blame for doing so when he’s president.

During election season numerous republicans said that Trump would fix the deficit. I have repeatedly pointed out he is NOT a fiscal conservative and that in all likelihood he will increase the deficit with his tax cuts/military spending faster than Biden.

The early signs point to me being right, I take no joy in that as I have repeatedly said the deficit is our biggest issue. It requires both major spending cuts AND an increase in revenue to solve. I wish that wasn’t the case but everyone in Washington acts like they can solve it with one of those two levers.

You need to pull both of them ya dumbasses.

How much money do you want to take from future generations as we live high on the deficit fueled hog? At some point we HAVE to pay the piper and start reducing the deficit. It is that or devalue the currency and drive a hyperinflation cycle.

You can’t cut your way to fixing the deficit. You have to cut AND increase government revenue. It sucks but it is the only actual solution. No one has the balls to do it, because the average American doesn’t realize how f*cked we are if we keep going down this path.

The MAGA opportunists talk a good game in the election, but the reality is they will spend like drunken sailors.

This is one of many reasons why I never understood those who said they were voting Trump because of “policy.”

Really? You’re in favor of massive deficits and skyrocketing inflation? That’s why you want Trump?

I honestly think it balances in hyperinflation and depression. The robber barons got us there last time. They will again.
