Ensuring equal access, improving education quality, administering financial aid, collecting data, promoting educational excellence and developing and enforcing laws.

Ripping out corruption and failure completely. The department of education has been a proven failure for decades and our education has only gotten worse since its iinception. the usaid is an example of a corrupt entity that should not exist.

No, simply the federal government's forced involvement in it. The left is just willing to excuse the endless failures of the department.

The vast vast majority of funding is done at the local level and isn't dependent on the dept of education. Curriculum is also set locally.
Therefor the dept of ed probably has very to little with school decline you speak of.
So the answer is dismantle rather than restructure? While I'm all for smaller government, I'm not sure an Alabama education vs a Connecticut education is what I'd call progress--we need national standards.

Dept of ed funds schools facing extreme poverty -- necessary because local tax base sucks -- and disability education.
Those don't seem like things people should want to cut....

I wasn't a never Trumper lol I was just an open advocate for vivek and wanted to trump to retire from politics outright. I'd still have preferred vivek btw but that was unfortunately not an option so trump is my guy by default. Thankfully he's performing even better than I could have predicted so far!
People are really going to shit when the debt forces real big cuts.
